I remember Mindy McCready from the CMT days (mostly Oh Romeo and Guys Do It All The Time). I know she took her own life about 10 years ago. So sad that for some people that is the only way they see to make things better.

i just wanted to give a shout out to FLO, they got another GREAT review here in the u.s. the new york times *yes, them!* listed the AAA *access all areas* album as one of the best albums this year!!!  so many major u.s. publications, esp. billboard, rolling stone & the ny times, are commending FLO for bringing back the 2000s' girl group vibe esp. following in the footsteps of destiny's child.  & destiny's child were HUGE over here!  they were hands down one of my very fave acts on the billboard hot 100 chart back in the day.   so *fingers crossed*, we'll see how things go, but gonna be a fun ride!

I’m confused where is Band Aid 40 version and why wasn’t it played on Friday charts , unless it #8 . So it would of been new than up, are they combining the versions together, also I wonder if they holding back the units till 13th December chart race for Christmas

avatar

Piran

0

They appear to be combining the new version with the original.

avatar

Shoogle

1

Surprised Band Aid charted so low, I thought it would do better just because it is Band Aid, but I find the whole mix of previous versions to be lazy, and it just didn't blend well. We don't need yet another version of the same old song, and Dizzee Rascal is still just as unnecessary now as he was 20 years ago.

Never been a fan of Ariana Grande, but I'd be happy to see Defying Gravity as the first No 1 of 2025.

Oh, i do love how the flood of Christmas songs makes the chart so much more interesting to look at - i mean, some of those climbs used to be a regular occurrence back in the 60's-90's. I still lament that it's the usual titles reaching the same heights whilst other worthy songs get ignored ( Greg Lake ' i believe in Father Christmas' , Cliff Richard ' little town' and Saint Etienne ' i was born on Christmas day' to name 3 ).

My 10 recently played at random songs is like this :

1 : Glad you came                                                     THE WANTED

2: Solitaire                                                                  THE CARPENTERS

3 : Deep in you                                                          LIVIN' JOY

4: Fly by II                                                                   BLUE

5: Utopia (where i want to be)                                  STEREO STAR featuring MIA J

6: The name of the game                                          ABBA

7: Shine                                                                       YEARS & YEARS

8: Pictures of you                                                       THE CURE

9: Stand by your man                                                TAMMY WYNETTE

10: Pour some sugar on me                                      DEF LEPPARD

so no one’s playing whamageddon, huh? evident with gracie only just beating last christmas.

side rant! i was having drinks with some friends last saturday night, and we made it to the early hours of sunday morning. i play whamageddon every year (yknow, the game where you have to avoid wham until xmas eve), and in only the first 30 MINUTES of december, someone got me out, and i was not happy. we ended up playing “f*ck you” by lily allen to him after it ended as retaliation for him knocking us out as december just began.

It would be pointless me (or any of my workmates) playing as it's basically inescapable from late November. Is there a prize for managing to avoid hearing it? How would it be proved?

This may be a bit of a stretch, but I wouldn’t rule out ‘APT.’ reaching #1 in the New Year.

It’s been closing the gap on ‘That’s So True’ for the past couple of weeks and both of them have been in the chart for the same amount of time so ACR could be a significant factor here too. Rosé will also get a boost from her debut solo album that came out today.

Either way, I really hope it can get there. We definitely need more fun and addictive songs like this topping the chart! ❤️

I’m glad that ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ didn’t return to #1 after the Band Aid 40 re-release.

Look, I obviously respect the cause of the campaign, but as a song, it’s not good at all. The lyrics and imagery always came across as extremely arrogant, stereotypical and even condescending towards Africans, especially the line “tonight thank God it’s them instead of you" which makes me shudder with anger everytime I hear it.

Between this and some artists’ vocals being reused without their permission… yeah, I’m gonna stream ‘We Know It’s Christmas’ by Fuse ODG instead. A much better song which actually tells the story from a local perspective and funds initiative projects directly.

Piran, the whole point of Bono's line is to make you feel guilty, to make you think about your privilege. It's the entire point of the song. It's much more powerful and nuanced than most twee charity sop.

That may have been his intention, but the wording just comes across as mean-spirited.

totally agree with you piran. i couldn’t have worded it any differently. haven’t heard the fuse odg song, but that’s a name i haven’t heard in a while, and i definitely want to hear it from an african’s perspective so ill check it out.

40 years ago it was, things have well and truly moved on since then. If they wanted to make an impact why not record something new and not another version either, something completely different
