Who is Laufey?

Laufey was born in Reykjavík to a Chinese violinist mother and an Icelandic father, Laufey grew up with one foot in tradition and the other in discovery. A classically trained pianist and cellist who once played solo with the Iceland Symphony at fifteen, she chose not to remain within the rigid walls of classical music.

Her voice, velvet-soft yet strikingly assured, has become the soundtrack of Gen Z’s quiet moments with songs that feel like whispered confidences over candlelight. Whether she’s blending bossa nova sway, cinematic orchestration, or bare confessionals, Laufey transforms jazz into something intimate and urgent, stripping away its intimidating polish and offering it as a language of comfort.

With her 2022 debut album Everything I Know About Love, Laufey positioned herself as a torchbearer of romance in an ironic age. Bewitched (2023) expanded her world with lush arrangements that earned her a Grammy and a global following, while A Matter of Time (2025) reveals a braver Laufey—cinematic, vulnerable, and unafraid to linger in imperfection.
