ROCKIN' AROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE

Brenda Lee's Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree was originally released in the UK in 1962 on the Brunswick label. Written by Johnny Marks, the rockabilly track was recorded by Brenda Lee in 1958 when the singer was just 13 years old.

Entering the UK singles chart at Number 30 in its first week in November 1962, the song climbed into the Top 10 and earned its original peak of Number 6 a month later.

However, Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree would go on to become a festive classic, notably featuring in the much-loved 1990 Christmas movie Home Alone as Kevin McCallister deterred would-be burglars from robbing his home by throwing a pretend Christmas party to make the house appear occupied. It later becoming a seasonal staple of the digital era too.

As such, it wasn't until a whole sixty years after its release, that the track would achieve its UK chart peak; in December 2021 Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree broke the Official Singles Chart Top 5 for this first time in the song's history, then a year later it scaled to even greater heights, landing at a new all-time peak of Number 4 on 30 December 2022.

During Christmas 2023 Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree became a Billboard record breaker, as the song topped the US Billboard Hot 100, it not only gave the singer a third US Number 1 single, it made Brenda Lee the oldest artist (age 78) ever to top the chart.
