We have reached the time where Streaming has become the main platform so please Kantar Official Charts Company reflect this in your new 2026 rules.

Streaming both audio and video come in on their full weights not more conversion as well as free and paid bios along with full weight sales and downloads.

Make it full power for week 1 then make the chart move around on the weekly climb to the weeks before number so that new entries are comparable and can still come in after week 2.

You have to fix your chart to reflect the times of streaming comes first now so it should be a full score not downgraded and all other full scores should join the new base score to make a total score and the correct score and then you can go to climb power only the following week to allow for new entries for 10000-1000000 unit tracks as a climb won't be as big as full power so it can work proper that way it also means ACR/SCR can be scrapped as going by climb if the climb is low or nothing that week the track is just straight booted.

The fact that Iris (which spends most of it’s time hovering around the lower end of the chart along with Mr Brightside) has managed to creep into the Top 40 at number 39 probably tells us all we need to know about the state of the charts right now. It’s still a great song though even after all these years 🙂

Who the heck is Haven?! They've never even dropped another song before. Get this industry plant out of the public view.

Only three places left for Sienna to reach the Top 10. Great success for Rosalia to enter the Top 40. Hope both can climb up next week, before the charts went in december. The horror already at 50 and 51 and more crappy christmas songs, we see each year, will follow.

They've already overtaken Mariah this week, I notice, albeit by the finest of margins. They already look unstoppable, don't they...? 😦

Why does EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD by TEARS FOR FEARS have a (supposedly) peak position of 72, while it was a massive hit in 1985 ?

avatar

Velvet Android

1

Supposedly, because it counts as a 'different' release to the original run. It's just like how the alleged peak positions shown next to the recent re-entries for Monster Mash and Somebody's Watching Me didn't reflect those songs' true historical peaks either.

There appears little rhyme or reason to these things – sometimes OCC tack re-entries onto the end of the original chart run, sometimes they decide it's a whole new entry. The 'logical' explanation though is that OCC lists things as a new entry if the release has a different catalogue number to the previous chart run. Expand the info for the song here or on Tears For Fears' artist page, and you'll see two different catalogue numbers against its separate appearances from 1985 and from 2022–.

Though in an era where stuff is re-entering purely digitally, I don't really get how it can be tied to any given catalogue number (which is what would've been on the label on a physical disc) anyway. I guess it's purely all down to whether the record companies have assigned a different catalogue number at some point in the intervening years or decades.

Sometimes however it's clearly a case that they've just credited an act differently, so it ends up separate in the database – e.g. Bobby "Boris" Pickett is credited solo for the recent Monster Mash re-entries, not with his band the Crypt-Kickers who were co-credited on its original release.

Sometimes it's a quirk, like how the annual re-entries of Last Christmas inherit the song's standalone chart history that only began with its first downloads entry in 2007 – but not its original chart run, which still shows it peaking at no.2 behind Band Aid in 1984... because that was as a double A-side with Everything She Wants, something that has no analogous equivalent in digital form.

And sometimes it just looks like somebody's botched the database entry, simply by adding or removing punctuation from a song title, or a 'The' at the start, or swapping 'and' for '&', or something like that, creating an all-new hit where none actually exists.

So what's actually the difference between say Everybody Wants To Rule The World, which reappears these days as a 'new' hit, and Radiohead's Creep (ironically, perhaps, a song Roland Orzabal of Tears For Fears used to get slated for covering in concert) that is shown as a continuation of its '90s chart run? Or between ...Rule The World and its near-contemporary Every Breath You Take, shown happily pottering around the lower end of the Top 100 currently in a direct continuation of a chart run that began in 1983? I don't know.

"The Book of Ophelia" just bores me. I rather want another week of "Golden" or "Where Is My Husband" at the top.

It’s a shame that EsDeeKid’s entries are gaining while Dave’s tracks outside of ‘Raindance’ aren't holding up at all. Oh well, at least ‘No Weapons’ finally debuted for the latter, even if it’s fairly low down.

‘Iris’ is a classic but the fact that a song from the late 90s is here on residual streaming alone shows how weak the chart sales are right now.

As for 'I Run' being Top 10 in the midweek update but not making the final chart, OCC released this statement;

"It is against Official Charts Company policy to include within our charts any repertoire which is believed to potentially be infringing. We have received notification that a series of takedown notices have been issued to DSPs in relation to the track I Run by Haven. Our understanding is that these takedown notices have been or are in the process of being implemented. As a consequence, this track is suspended today from the Official Singles Charts."

Update: It's now been confirmed that HAVEN used Suno AI to manipulate his voice and make it sound like female vocals.

There is rumours the song is AI while I can't confirm that the song being removed from Spotify and no one knowing who the singer is (Jorja Smith confirmed it's not her), I wouldn't surprise if it is.

Loving the new peaks for ‘Die On This Hill’ and ‘Folded’. Hopefully the former can sneak into the Top 10 before all the holiday songs flood the region, but I don’t mind if it gets there in the new year.

Even with ACR, ‘Ordinary’ isn’t falling fast enough. I guess one advantage of the Christmas entries is that we’ll have a break from it for a few weeks.

I’m amazed by how well Rosalía is doing. Her last project made almost no impact here, now she’s charting three tracks simultaneously and has one of the biggest albums of the week.

‘Berghain’ going Top 40 might be one of my chart highlights of the entire year! It also marks Björk’s first appearance in the region since 2005.

Good to see ‘The Fate Of Ophelia’ back at the summit. Even if I have mixed opinions on Taylor’s album, this is easily one of the strongest tracks on it.

Hopefully this means that 'Golden' is finally done at the top.
