Taste by Sabrina Carpenter was released through Polydor/Island Records on August 23, 2024. The third single from her sixth studio album, Taste followed in the footsteps of Sabrina's two previous Number 1 singles Espresso and Please Please Please, and topped the UK Official Singles Chart upon release.
The pop/slacker rock song reflecting on the complexities of relationships was written by Sabrina Carpenter alongside songwriters Julia Michaels and Amy Allen, Taste was produced by John Ryan and Ian Kirkpatrick, with Julian Bunetta also contributing to production. Its Dave Meyers-directed music video, features Jenna Ortega.
Taste entered the Official Chart at Number 1 on 30 August 2024, and by 18 October 2024 in the song's eighth consecutive week at the summit, Official Charts announced that Sabrina had become the first artist in 71 years to spend 20 weeks at Number 1 in the UK in a single year. Added to the tally was Espresso (7 weeks) and Please Please Please (5 weeks). The last (and only) artist to achieve that was Frankie Laine, all the way back in 1953.
Taste was the longest-running Number 1 of the year, spending a cool 9 weeks at the summit of the Official Singles Chart, perhaps no surprise then that Official Charts confirmed it to be one of the biggest songs of 2024.
