Hardly any British artists in the chart, very depressing. UK music industry is dead or producing artists that do not appeal globally

yh fr, it's dry for brits compared to what it was like on the charts 10 years ago

arguably id say an exception to this is indie rock, Fontaines D.C, Inhaler, Wunderhorse, The K's etc.

anyway, busy woman at #10 is one of my favourite songs this year, and 'love me not' at #75 i'm really hoping will become a huge hit! ravyn lenae's newest album is so so incredible.

'messy' falling from number 1 this week due to kendrick's career high post-super bowl, i'm actually not mad at it! not like us feels like a song that should've already been #1, and messy has soured on me a lot recently, which is a shame because lola young has some wayyy better songs. i'm hoping she pushes this era out with more singles, because almost every song on her album is better than messy. i love 'flicker of light' by her too, a way better example of her talent in my opinion.

M

I do agree that not like us already felt like a #1 hit

i'm aware that this conversation is being had in the comments about the mad amount of old songs in the chart but i got a bit passionate typing a reply so i'll post it as it's own comment:

the OCC need to just bring in recurrency rules like billboard!! they got that right because it's obvious that streaming gives older songs a huge advantage. songs have always stood the test of time but they didn't use to clog up the charts, it's just that people can now go stream whatever song comes to mind. it's not an accurate reflection of what's popular if it's a song that's already been popular on the charts. the singles chart would be such a better reflection of the contemporary if they had songs go 'recurrent' (out) after dropping below #50 after 20 weeks charting. rather than booting songs down the chart on the 10th week? which destroys songs that aren't mega popular's success and only halves the songs that are mega popular, causing them to stay forever anyway?

billboard has a lot of funny rules which the OCC do better, but ACR is an obvious mess. i hope they fix this, otherwise every 'end of year' chart will be worse than the next

3

Would you mind leaving the site because i don't get your obsession and it's genuinely jarring

G

Gery

-3

Strangeways, she should leave the site for laughing?  If it's got to the point where you are throwing tantrums because of someone elses criticism of somneone you like then it's you that needs to go, not her. She didn't mention anyone, she HINTED.  Betty don't let them force you out.

M

mrstarling

4

@Gery

You support swearing at someone for no real reason at all? You can clearly see that I wasn't being rude here at all and strangeways said what he said because of that.

It's clear you are supporting either because you are an alt or she is a friend to you.

BTW if you do bother replying then don't try and bring up anything from the past comments sections, this is about what's happening now, not what happened before.

M

mrstarling

4

"If it's got to the point where you are throwing tantrums because of someone elses criticism of somneone you like then it's you that needs to go"

That's exactly what Betty did, throwing a tantrum because of people I didn't like and criticising me, you literally applied something that Betty is doing, no way you can defend that.

avatar

strangeways_here_we_come

2

How hypocritical of you. I'm convinced this is satire surely you did not just say that 🤣

M

mrstarling

2

When you respond to someone you basically want a response, there's no other reason to respond, that's exactly what Betty wanted.

Betty created her account to speak to me, she interrupted random conversations to talk to me multiple times when they had nothing to do with her and now when I respond to her and give the attention she wanted she acts like I'm obsessed, bruh she literally wanted responses from me.

B

BettyBoop3

-1

Gery,

I wouldn't be surprised if Mr S and Strangeways are the same person. He's already admitted to using multiple accounts to troll.

M

mrstarling

1

Correction, I said I had another account that I no longer use not that I use one to troll.

And Strangeways started on this website just posting his own charts which are completely separate from mine, you are just nitpicking for a response because there's no proof of this at all.

M

mrstarling

1

Betty if you want to ragebait me then you aren't doing a good job, you are the least of my worries.

Nothing too spectacular this, but the rules should be changed that no respawn of old songs is possible (no need for Please Please Please or Beautiful Things to return into the top 10).

A separate chart NEEDS to be made for older songs because I've actually had enough of it now. Every week I'm sick of seeing Mr Brightside, Iris, Viva Ka Vida etc etc take up spaces in the charts when there are probably loads of great artists who are not in the top 100 because it's being taken up by the same songs. I've said this a lot but it needs to be done. So many artists would perform a lot better. The only exception would be if a single was reissued perhaps. Yet again so many would do a lot better. Fontaines DC are quite a good band and they DESERVE a top 40, the death of bands in the charts is also quite concerning so I'd love to see them get a top 40 for once. It's the same with other bands rn like Wunderhorse etc. As much as old as my music taste is, CHARTS ARE FOR NEW SONGS. It was always this way but since the streaming era took over there's been multiple songs occupying spots in the charts for weeks. And the fact is the older artists that still release music are still big. There are so many bands that top or nearly top the album chart, Depeche Mode, Suede, Blur, etc etc, but they have no impact in the singles chart, mostly due to these songs staying in the charts. Even if they got in the low ends of the top 100 it'd be good because it'd give people more exposure to more music. I don't think it'll happen but it's a wish of mine, the charts would actually mean more for me

M

mrstarling

2

I agree, there should be like a 1 year window that a song can stay in a chart and songs can only re enter once a year.

avatar

Foxes

-2

If newer songs wanted more spaces in the Top 100 maybe they should try performing better than the older songs. Nobody is owed a space on the chart, you earn it by being one of the 100 most popular songs of the week. It doesn't matter if the song is 1 month, 1 year, 1 decade or even 1 century old, if it's one of the 100 most popular songs of the week, it should be in the Top 100.

avatar

strangeways_here_we_come

0

Abysmal take. If you actually take ACR out of this chart then they'd probably all be the same 5 artists. If a songs popular it's popular but if it keeps reappearing then it's overstayed it's welcome. Should only reappear for sales

What kind of song title is Personal Jesus lol

EDIT: why are people down voting this?? I gave no opinion I'm simply just stating that its a unique song title.

It's about someone being there for you all the time really, giving you hope, care etc. It's integrated into a brilliant quite dark beat which shows how good Depeche mode were and are

Oh ok, don't understand why so many people down voted me.

Because, on face value, it sounds like you're slagging off an all-time classic.

I know that might not have been how you meant it, but there's little room for 'tone of voice' in text!

@velvet

I've never heard of the song nor do i know the artist so I have no reason to disrespect It.

That's not what I was doing, I was just pointing out that it's a unique song title.

Much like the original edition of ‘Short n’ Sweet’, I’m kind of mixed on the deluxe edition.

‘Busy Woman’ was definitely the highlight of it so nice to see it getting off to a very strong start. Unfortunately, I’m not a fan of either version of ‘Please Please Please’ at all. I’d much rather ’15 Minutes’ entered instead.

As for the AJ Tracey and Jorja Smith collab… it’s just okay for now but I think it has potential to grow on me further.

It’s a shame that ‘Remember My Name’ didn’t make the Top 40 despite being there in Monday’s update.

It’s such a beautiful yet heartbreaking tribute to Sam’s late grandparents. It might even be one of the most emotional songs to chart this year.

I have absolutely zero interest in checking out the Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR album. I only heard the songs that charted for my Top 40 rankings. ‘Nokia’ wasn’t bad but I really didn’t like the other two.

Also, ‘$ome $exy $ongs 4 U’ has to be one of the worst album titles in recent memory… 💀

Glad to see ‘Not Like Us’ at the top spot! It isn’t even Kendrick’s best diss track for me and most of the songs on ‘GNX’ are better, but it’s still very good and he’s my favourite rapper so this was always going to be a special moment.

Congratulations to him on his first #1 single in the UK! 👏
