Take out the chart cheating and helping rubber band and yo yo tracks mechanics of the ACR/SCR and Sabrina Carpenter never would have done the most at Number One female act in in the first place because we would have real unaltered chart results that haven't been hyped and intentionally molded to the generic tracks artists favours. It needs to go back to straight full numbers additions on every unit with maybe the Number One having a total units stoppage with no additional ones added and a 5 weeks max limit on it as it's the current days where people can't stand number ones which last past 5 weeks. They also can't stand Top 10s more than 10 weeks and tracks in the Top 40 for longer than Bryan Adams Robin Hood 16 weeks and they definitely can't stand more than one re-entry per year the UK charts company needs to revise it's rules for the current times in 2025 people are getting bored of UK music now because we are getting fiddled and fixed results on generic music and hits that last permanently in the chart which makes it boring. You gotta revise the rules to get us back enjoying chart stuff again. I haven't even bothered listening to any of the christmas ones other than the big number one and that was the 5 minutes at the end announcement part only as the chart has got boring again due to everlasting re-entries and weeks in there.

Is anyone looking forward to any albums this year? Personally I'm looking forward to the new Manic Street Preachers album (i think it's called Critical Thinking). I really hope that gets to #1, they were really famous in the 90s. It's a shame the singles don't chart anymore. They would if a lot of other older hits didn't take up half of the lower end of the chart.

I'm also looking forward to the new Blondie album. I absolutely love Blondie. I know it's gonna be a farewell though. Debbie Harry's getting on a bit now and she'll be 80 by the time it releases. I think she had one of the best voices of the 70s and 80s and had inspired all genres to be honest. Inspired disco and funk with Heart Of Glass, hip-hop and rap with Rapture, which was the first rap song to hit #1 in the US. Definitely new wave and rock too, Atomic, Call Me, One Way Or Another etc etc. But yeah. I hope the hype I have lives up to it.

Does anyone have any opinions on any of these songs that would be deemed 'unpopular'?

Yes of course I would lol, the music today is not my thing. I dislike it but I can tolerate it because I don't hear some of the songs that often. E.g I've never heard Taste. I know it was #1 for 9 weeks but I haven't a clue what it is. If someone elaborate I might.

I don't use the word hate in music often. I do say some of it about older music, I hate Dancing In The Street by David Bowie and Mick Jagger, and I love David Bowie.

Right enough about that anyway, the standout song I hate is APT. I just can't stand it. It's repetitive, bland, boring in my opinion. The music videos kinda strange and I'm picky about certain things cus I am that way, so that's a massive put off too. Of course I have no problem with people liking it, it's by a popular artist so ofc people are gonna like it, I just feel it's not for me and they could've done a better job.

Rant over I suppose lol. But does anyone else dislike some of the songs in the chart? I know this'll get down voted but, oh well.

There was a lot of bad numbers ones in 2024 (including 'Taste')

I don't really know how to elaborate.. there's just cr*p

I’m surprised by how many songs I ended up liking in the Top 40 this week, even if ‘Die With A Smile’ and ‘What Is This Feeling?’ grew on me a lot over the holidays.

Unfortunately, we have to deal with ‘Thick Of It’ back in the region again. Why couldn’t we have given ‘Dirty’ a push instead? A much better KSI song.

Also, of all the Christmas songs we could’ve picked to stay in the Top 40 for another week, why did it have to be one of the worst? 😐

I don't really like them to be honest. They've got a few good songs, personally I prefer Paul and George's solo career

The Beatles: no one comes even close to the variety of styles they used, combined with wonderful melodies (especially in Paul McCartney's compositions) and great arrangements (with help of George Martin of course) .

Happy New Year everyone, lets hope all differences and squabbles can stay in the last year, and we can all just get along. I know I don't contribute as much as a lot of you, but I do enjoy coming in to read other peoples opinions on music, and picking up some recommendations.

M

mrstarling

2

Yeah, agreed, the last year in the charts wasn't my thing so hopefully this year the complaints will be down more (The year has started good so far.. apart from 'The Days')

SZA definitely made a brave move dropping a deluxe edition of her album less than a week before Christmas Day! Happy that ‘BMF’ made it though and hopefully ‘Kitchen’ will eventually be pushed as a single. :)

Speaking of songs beneath the Top 40, I also hope ‘Push The Tempo’ can make it into the region in the week ahead. It’s ‘Disconnect 2.0’ and I mean that as a compliment since I like that song too!

M

mrstarling

1

Yeah! 'SOS' is an amazing album

3

Fantastic to see Tyla with a third Top 40 hit! 😊

She’s one of the most talented African artists in the mainstream right now and ‘Push 2 Start’ is yet another bop from her.

It’s “Re Re Re Re Re” week!

I always enjoy the first chart of the year as it’s so refreshing after more than a month of songs that have the same theme… and especially the fact that more than 75% of the songs in it are either returns or debuts lmao.

That being said, as somebody who likes Gracie more than most here probably do, ‘That’s So True’ has spent enough time at #1 now. I just hope she doesn’t deny both Rosé and Lola Young of the top spot. Good to see the latter in the Top 3 at the very least!

M

If 'Messy' continues holding strong than things could get messy for the other songs.. honestly that's so true.

Happy New Year everyone! ❤️

Looking forward to seeing what the charts will bring us in 2025. The past year gave us so many surprise hits that I honestly have no idea what to predict for the year ahead. Either way, I really hope it’ll be one full of positives.
