It's Friday, there's a new official singles and albums chart but i'm here to take you back to a time when you daren't blink or you'd see a song disappear from the charts (ah, but most of you strike me as mere youths, sigh). Get on with it, did you say? ok then..

1: You should really know                             PIRATES featuring SHOLA AMA/ENYA/NAILA BOSS & ISHANI

2: Shotgun*                                                     GEORGE EZRA

3: Every 1's a winner                                      HOT CHOCOLATE

4: Just the way i'm feeling                            FEEDER

5: Lay your hands                                          SIMON WEBBE

6: Spooky                                                       NEW ORDER

7: Don't worry                                                 KIM APPLEBY

8: Playing with knives                                    BIZARRE INC

9: The Chinese way                                        LEVEL 42

10: Little bird                                                   ANNIE LENNOX

* (shock- something relatively recent!)

as we’re nearing the end of 2024, it’s time for me to reveal my top 40 albums of the year.

this list has been difficult to compile, with anticipated releases, lesser-known bangers that flew over my head, and surprise albums dropping - it felt like everyone was releasing, which is why i can safely say this was one of my favourite years for new music. but, with careful consideration, i now have a full top 40, with added descriptions to show you what you can expect from each record. and hey, if this puts you onto some stuff, it further proves my point that this year has been GREAT.

you can view the list here: https://www.albumoftheyear.org/user/itsnoodleszn-/list/277894/top-40-albums-of-2024/?sort=list-low-high

As you can tell, my opinion on the Christmas classics is very polarising. I’ll never complain about the returns for Ariana or Kelly but we’re unfortunately gonna have to deal with Bublé and Sia again from next week.

Outside of that, ‘People Watching’ is the newest addition to my Great Tier and takes the top spot in my rankings! I stand by it not being on the same level as ‘Seventeen Going Under’ just yet but it’s definitely getting closer than I would’ve expected. :)

Pleasantly surprised to see Stromae here, but I’m stunned that his new single outpeaked ‘Alors On Danse’.

I can't believe I heard buble get called the king of Christmas on radio 🙄

Unfortunately, I'm not surprised.

Disappointed that ‘Number One Girl’ debuted as low as it did, but I blame that partly on unfortunate timing.

Between this and ‘APT’, I’m very excited for the release of Rosé’s debut solo album next week! ❤️

It’s looking like Laufey could end up with simultaneous Top 40 entries next month. If she does, that’d be absolutely amazing! 😊

That being said, for as much as it’s good to see her getting success with her Christmas entries, I hope more people check out some of her non-holiday music too! She’s such an underrated artist in general and her latest album that she released last September was among the best of 2023.

It's weird how the three song rule didn't apply to 'Wicked' in the update but it did in the final chart.

Anyway, I’ve not seen the new version of the film, but the original movie is one of my favourite musicals of all-time!

I absolutely adore ‘Defying Gravity’ and ‘Popular’, so Cynthia and Ariana getting close to the quality of either of them was always going to be a tough ask, but they certainly didn’t do a bad job.

macie

1

nope, it’s only charting 3 songs in the entire top 100 meaning it suffered the same fate as Encanto 😩

Oops. Edited.

Fantastic to see Kendrick with three tracks in the Top 10!

My favourite tracks on the album are ‘Reincarnated’ and ‘Wacced Out Murals’, but ‘Luther’ was one of the other highlights so I’m glad to see it here. Kendrick and SZA always seem to make magic happen whenever they collaborate.

Overall, ‘GNX’ is further proof that Kendrick is one of the most talented rappers of our generation. If this is final bit of major chart action we get this year outside of Christmas, then what a note to end on!
