I have a good feeling that "Bed Chem" will hit number one eventually and I don't want "Gangnam Style" to be the only number one hit by a Korean act in this country forever.

M

mrstarling

0

Why? Bed chem is staying low near 10

okay, the holiday tracks are flocking in batches now. i do like getting in the festive spirit, but im really bored of 90% of the christmas hits. then again, i’m 20 and my tastes are evolving so 🤷‍♀️

i found out about a my chemical romance cover of all i want for christmas is you earlier this year though, so that’s going on repeat! and of course i’ll be plugging christmas caller by beach bunny like i do every year because it doesn’t get enough support

M

Christmas is the best time of the year... who doesent feel jolly then? 😊

honestly really glad labour was able to re-enter this week, I would love to see it back in the top 40 next week as a big f*ck you to the horrors america is going to face over the next 4 years.

i love that song

avatar

macie

1

same!! the cacophony version that she released earlier this year is also great

2

Sadly, it isn't just America that's going to suffer, it's the whole world. That being said, I'm also glad that 'Labour' is back in the chart today.

this website is borderline unusable now. i can’t even look through this website without a pop up ad! this website is starting to turn into those dodgy mp3 download sites we all used to use! except this website contributes nothing to those mix cds we used to create. sort the pop up ads out occ!

two thumbs up to the cure for running away with the number 1 album - i knew it would happen considering their legacy and this record’s acclaim, but very few comeback albums after so long are this good. slowdive and depeche mode are other acts who are in that exclusive club, but for now, well done to the cure and i’m so happy to have them back 🖤

avatar

3

see, this is why i don’t like being perceived as a chart follower.

at the start of the year, i was loving gracie abrams’ debut album, and was rooting for her to be bigger in the charts. i got my wish, and she’s now number 1 with her worst song to date.

if you don’t mind me, i’ll be in my lil corner streaming fault line. that should’ve been the hit.

avatar

macie

0

yeah I hate That’s So True as well 😩😩 why couldn’t it have been ILYIS

avatar

macie

0

well. Gracie did it 😩 I wouldn’t mind if it was I Love You, I’m Sorry (which I’d honestly consider good) but That’s So True is easily her worst song to date imo, her vocals sound atrocious on it

Sailor Song also really grew on me over the week 😅

I'm not a Gracie fan either

Do you like any new music at all? Or is it all the classics. Also nice to see your top 20 again

avatar

Predominantly music from the 60s-00s lol. New music not much. Not all the current artists. The only new music I like really is when a band I like release a new album eg The Ballad Of Darren by Blur in 2023

M

Nice! I respect that

It's quite good. Far better than Think Tank in 2003 (haven't listened to magic whip). Damon albarn's voice has matured quite a lot too.

Chart Review 08/11/24

Screw Elon Musk and everything he stands for.

Sorry, I know I shouldn't be plugging my political opinions in anybody's faces after the past couple weeks, and whatever farcicalities were going on in the Album Chart comment sections should also be wavered away as an argument no one needed to initiate, but it's kinda difficult to keep quiet after the USA elected Donald Trump for another 4 years of wacky hijinks. Not that I have anything against the most famous tan-man in the world, but it feels a bit suspect that a guy with a humorous mugshot is leading America to try and fix their problems or whatever. Either way, the moral of the story here? Never hire any famous musicians to carry your campaigns. Because now people are gonna look at BRAT (Collins word of the year by the way) in a bad light after Kamala Harris completely shafted it.

Obviously, the British chart hasn't been affected by this at all, but you really wish it did because THERE'S NOTHING NEW AGAIN. Apart from the No.1 slot, because Gigi Perez has the defensive capabilities of that Armenian team Chelsea played against last night, as she trades her chart-topping slot with everybody's favourite female singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams. Everbody's favourite. 😐 Ignore the fact that all of her hits seem to be a DIY spreadsheet of musical copyright (Close To You is reminiscent of Julia Michaels, I Love You, I'm Sorry sounds like Taylor Swift, us. actaully has Taylor Swift), and with That's So True casually giving her a No.1 single for the first time, you can totally appreciate just how easy it is to do bits in the charts these days. Just tour with someone famous and you're set for life.

Apart from that though there's little to talk about, the 2 new entries being the latest Weeknd song to creep out of the speakers and bore me to tears, Sao Paulo having Brazilian superstar Anitta to vaguely spice up the action (either that or the video put me off my drink), and one of the Tyler, The Creator album tracks being replaced by another one that doesn't sound as amazing. Good for Lola Young that she gets to terrorise the chart for the first time, but did Like Him really have to replace my personal favourite off CHROMAKOPIA? And over on the album chart it's a glorious day for supporters of The Cure as their first album since Comet was on the high street powers past all opposition to make the music scene as gloomy and brooding as ever. Even if I prefer Friday I'm In Love to anything off Songs Of A Lost World.

AMAZING TIER:

Charli XCX [24], Linkin Park [28], Chappell Roan [5], Shaboozey [25]

GREAT TIER:

Chappell Roan [17], Sabrina Carpenter [19], Adam Port/Stryv/Nice To See This Back In The Top 10 [10]

GOOD TIER:

Billie Eilish [18], Tate McRae [34], Sabrina Carpenter [9], Tyler, The Creator [27], Tyler, The Creator [16], Sonny Fodera/Jazzy/D.O.D. [30]

OK TIER:

Billie Eilish [11], Charli XCX (+ Ariana Grande) [32], ROSÉ & Bruno Mars [3], Tyler, The Creator ft. Lola Young [33] (Shame Noid dropped out for this, but I like it well enough I guess.), Gracie Abrams [1], Teddy Swims [8], Addison Rae [13], Sabrina Carpenter [7]

EH TIER:

Gigi Perez [2], Gracie Abrams [4], Noah Kahan [40], Lady Gaga [12], KSI ft. Trippie Redd [6], Ndotz [39], One Direction [20], Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars [14], Teddy Swims [15]

DISLIKE TIER:

Myles Smith [29], The Weeknd/Anitta [22], One Direction [36], The Kid LAROI [35], The Weeknd/Playboi Carti [21]

BAD TIER:

Hozier [37], BL3SS/CamrinWatsin/bbyclose [38] (The follow-up dropped today. Give them that 1-hit status with immediate effect.), cassö/RAYE/D-Block Europe [31]

AWFUL TIER:

Benson Boone [23], Teddy Swims [26] (These two have spent a combined total of 87 weeks in the UK Top 40. No wonder humanity is in a state right now.)

NEW ONES (and other things)

The Weeknd/Anitta - Sao Paulo [22] (Slightly better than Timeless, but why The Weeknd resorted to reducing his appearance in the music video to people's bellies is anyone's guess.)

Tyler, The Creator ft. Lola Young - Like Him [27] (It's alright. Probably wouldn't stand a chance on a TTC Greatest Hits compilation but what can you do, eh?)

Chappell Roan - Casual [47] (Pink Pony Club's on ACR, so this fellow ballad takes it's spot. And yeah, it's OK. Start making new music please.)

Paris Paloma - Labour [62] (Mid-table hit from last year, but back in the charts because politics is funny like that sometimes.)

Central Cee - One By One [69] (So when is this guy gonna start making GOOD rap songs again? Asking for a friend of mine who hates Central Cee.)

Shawn Mendes - Heart Of Gold [81] (I swear this guy's career has been in toilet since at least 2022. Bandwagon-jumping with this acoustic number isn't gonna change his fortunes I'm afraid.)

D-Block Europe ft. 9Goody - Won't Ever Know [85] (See Central Cee for more info.)

The Adventures of Stevie. V - Dirty Cash [100] (Taken from the same soundtrack as Milli Vanilli and Crowded House. It's also the only reason Sonny Fodera's in a career with what it sounds like.)

Bye. Mariah and Wham! have also re-entered at 58 and 61. More on them next week.

I’ve been following Anitta for a few years now so it’s cool to see her finally in the UK charts thanks to a feature on the new single by The Weeknd. Not among her best songs but it’s decent and I could definitely see it growing on me, even if the music video is kind of disgusting.

‘Like Him’ is a decent entry for Tyler, although I’m rather surprised about ‘Noid’ dropping out.

As for the returns, seeing ‘Stick Season’ here yet again is becoming incredibly tiresome…

It’s kind of a shame that ‘Mantra’ is quickly falling down the chart.

I love ‘APT’ and I’m glad that it’s sticking around, but I think this might be one of the best songs I’ve ever heard by a K-Pop artist!

Piran

8

I like ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ and 'Last Christmas', don’t get me wrong, but I think the second week of November is way too early for Christmas classics to be re-entering the chart.

I personally start listening to festive songs from the start of December.

M

i have a playlist called “christmas songs that aren’t gonna make me lose my sh*t this year”. there’s a few hits here and there, but mostly deeper cuts.

there’s an elliott smith song in there called “angel in the snow”, and even though it has nothing to do with christmas i’ll give it the power of love treatment because it’s more wintery than that song anyway imo

Finally, ‘The Door’ entered the Top 10 and ‘Bad Dreams’ took a considerable jump as well. :)

Speaking of the Top 10, I hope ‘Wildflower’ can make it into the region in the coming weeks.

Glad to see ‘Hot To Go!’ with a new peak again and breaking into the Top 5 for the first time.

Further down, I absolutely love the breakthrough for ‘Casual’. Another highlight from Chappell’s debut album and proof that she can ace ballads as well as upbeat pop. Would love to see this become another hit for her! 😊
