Songs of the Summer 2024 contenders: Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Central Cee, Tinashe, Post Malone and more
The race for the UK's Official Song of the Summer 2024 has begun!
Here at Official Charts, we're always looking forward to the time of year where the days get longer and hotter, and we're always on the lookout for the song that's going to be the soundtrack of any given summer.
Last year, Central Cee & Dave's record-breaking smash Sprinter was named 2023's Official Song of the Summer - but what will be 2024's? Here are our picks for the contenders to keep an eye on!
Dance tunes
cassö, Jazzy & Headie One – Zeros
cassö, coming off his Number 2 smash Prada with RAYE and D-Block Europe, has teamed up with experienced dance vocalist Jazzy and rapper Headie One on Zeros, co-written by Clementine Douglas.
Disclosure – She’s Gone, Dance On
More than a decade since their debut album, Settle, changed British dance music forever, Disclosure are back, this time with a summer jam that contains an intelligent sample of Italian composer Ennio Morricone's Dance On with Michael Fraser.
Majestic, The Jammin Kid & Céline Dion – Set My Heart On Fire (I’m Alive x And The Beat Goes On)
Céline Dion is nothing if not a fighter, as a new documentary on her life and current battle with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) arrives on Amazon Prime Video, it makes sense one of her most jubliant hits, I'm Alive, has received a mashup makeover by the DJ Majestic.
The Blessed Madonna & Clementine Douglas – Happier
Already the first UK Top 20 hit for acclaimed DJ and producer The Blessed Madonna, can Happier stick around in the sunshine?
Ella Henderson, Switch Disco & Alok – Under The Sun
10 years since Ghost debuted at Number 1, and Ella Henderson has become one of the UK's premier dancefloor divas.
Flex (UK) ft. Nate Dogg – 6 In The Morning
A recent new entry in the UK Top 40, Flex's banging new tune features vocals from late rapper Nate Dogg, who died in 2011.
PAWSA ft. Nate Dogg – PICK UP THE PHONE
It doesn't stop there. Could Nate Dogg pick up a second posthumous hit this summer?
Zerb, The Chainsmokers & Ink – Addicted
The Chainsmokers broke through with hits including Closer with Halsey, but haven't seriously bothered the charts in a while. Could this set them back on top?
Kabin Crew & Lisdoonvarna Crew – The Spark
Originally conceived in sessions for a non-profit youth rap in Cork City, Kabin Crew & Lisdoonvarna Crew's members are all schoolkids aged 9-12, but that hasn't stopped them going massively viral. The Derry Girls would be proud.
Girl On Couch & Billen Ted – Man In Finance (G6 Trust Fund)
Looking for a man in finance? Trust fund? 6'5? Blue eyes? Us too!
This viral moment stemming from a nine-second TikTok by Megan Boni, aka Girl on Couch, asking "Did I just write the song of the summer? Can someone make this into an actual song plz just for funzies" has lead to an actual song being made by Billen Ted (and a remix by David Guetta!) Time will tell if it becomes the song of the summer...
Fred again.., Anderson .Paak & CHIKA – places to be
Taken from Fred again..'s latest ongoing project USB, places to be is shaping up to be another hit for the Mercury Prize-nominated star.
Sonny Fodera ft. blythe – Mind Still
Following his Top 10 hit Asking with Clementine Douglas and MK, Australian DJ Sonny Fodera is hoping lightning will strike twice.
Future hits
Katy Perry – Woman’s World
After a few years in the pop wilderness, Katy's big mainstream comeback is upon us. Woman's World arrives with a world of expectations on its cyborg shoulders, as it seeks to put one of the biggest pop stars of all time back on top.
Charli xcx – 360
Do you like what you see? Charli's IT girl anthem is the name on everyone's lips after BRAT's release.
Tinashe - Nasty
Tinashe is looking for someone to match her freak on her biggest hit in years - will the UK answer?
Gracie Abrams - Close To You
Gracie secured her first-ever UK Top 40 single with this infectious slice of Lorde-inspired synth pop. Read more in our interview with Gracie Abrams here.
Perrie - Tears
Perrie's '80s-inspired breezy bop has chilled summer evening written all over it, tbh.
JADE - Angel Of My Dreams
Can Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall deliver with her debut solo offering?
GloRilla - TGIF
Bringing the heat, US rapper GloRilla's snippets of her new track TGIF keep going extremely viral, a big hint this is a future hit to keep an eye on!
Country takeover
Shaboozey – A Bar Song (Tipsy)
Someone pour him a double shot of whiskey! Shaboozey's Top 10 smash is not going anywhere.
Post Malone & Morgan Wallen – I Had Some Help / Post Malone & Blake Shelton – Pour Me A Drink
With a brand new country-focused album F-1 Trillion on the way, there's not stopping Post Malone right now.
Zach Bryan – Pink Skies
US country superstar Zach Bryan has already scored one UK hit with I Remember Everything with Kacey Musgraves - can he get another?
Kane Brown & Marshmello – Miles On It
Another ascendant star over the pond, Kane Brown's team-up with Marshmello is country with a heavy injection of dance.
Moneybagg Yo & Morgan Wallen – WHISKEY WHISKEY
Probably the biggest artist in his native US (Taylor Swift aside, of course), Morgan Wallen has another collaboration catching heat, with Memphis MC Moneybagg Yo.
Afrobeats bangers
Byron Messia, Lil Baby & Rvssian – Choppa
The brains behind 2023 Top 20 hit Talibans, Choppa sees Byron Messia team up with Lil Baby and Jamaican producer Rvssian.
Tems – Love Me JeJe
The heart-swooning Love Me JeJe has ruled the Number 1 spot on the Official Afrobeats Chart for weeks, and isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
Tyla - ART/Jump ft. Gunna & Skillibeng
Tyla is perhaps THE breakout Afrobeats artist of the moment. Her self-titled debut album is full of hits, but the two biggest smashes still waiting for their time to shine are ART and Jump with Gunna and Skillibeng.
Rema - Benin Boys
Rema's first new single of the year sees him reclaim his place as one of the most popular and exciting artists working in Afrobeats right now.
Current chart smashes
Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso
What is there to say about that me Espresso that hasn't already been said (by us)?
Chappell Roan - Good Luck, Babe!
Chappell Roan's long-awaited breakout moment is quite something to behold; a sapphic lament that's one part Marina, one part Kate Bush and one part medieval renaissance fair.
Benson Boone - Slow It Down
Scoring his first Number 1 this year with Beautiful Things, Slow It Down is Benson's elegant follow-up.
Sabrina Carpenter - Please Please Please
Ask nicely and Sabrina Carpenter may just have another irresistible (and inescapable) summer smash for you...
Myles Smith - Stargazing
Thanks to the rollicking Stargazing, Myles Smith now has his first UK Top 10 single...and a shot at song of the summer.
Eminem - Houdini
Catch him or he goes! Eminem's 11th Number 1 single on the Official Chart is a return to form for Slim Shady.
Billie Eilish – BIRDS OF A FEATHER
HIT ME HARD AND SOFT is the most experimental (and honest) LP of Billie's career so far, and the soaring BIRDS OF A FEATHER is one of its biggest breakout hits.
Central Cee & Lil Baby – BAND4BAND
The latest single from Central Cee's forthcoming debut album, Band4Band earned a debut straight into the Top 10.
Comeback corner?
Bronski Beat – Smalltown Boy
Featured in the TV hit everyone is still talking about - Netflix's Baby Reindeer - this 1984 single from queer synth-pop triro Bronski Beat celebrates its 40th anniversary this year (yes, 00s kids, that is the sample from September's club classic Cry For You).
Disturbed – The Sound Of Silence (CYRIL Remix)
Disturbed's morose cover of the Simon & Garfunkel classic has got a snazzy new CYRIL remix which finds it climbing the charts once more.
Badger & Natasha Bedingfield – These Words
Not content with having one career resurgence this year, Natasha Bedingfield's 2004 Number 1 (all about overcoming writer's block) has been re-imagined by DJ Badger.
Baddiel, Skinner & Lightning Seeds – 3 Lions
Because of the Euros, of course.
The Beatles - Hey Jude
Do it for Jude (Bellingham, that is).
