Sabrina Carpenter's Espresso named UK's Official Song of the Summer 2024

There's nothing like a hit of coffee in the sun!
Official Biggest Songs of the Summer 2024

That’s that me Espresso! Today, Official Charts can confirm that Sabrina Carpenter’s breezy caffeine hit, Espresso, is the UK’s Official Song of the Summer 2024.

The long-awaited breakout smash for the US star, Espresso has shifted a total of 800,000 UK chart units this summer (counted between June-August 2024), including 92.25 million streams. The first UK Number 1 single for Sabrina (who's followed it up with two more, Please Please Please and Taste, both taken from her sixth album Short n’ Sweet), Espresso completely dominated the conversation on and offline this summer, occupying the UK's Number 1 spot for seven non-consecutive weeks. The track is also this summer's biggest seller on physical formats.

Confirming Sabrina’s complete takeover this summer, Please Please Please takes second place in the Official Songs of the Summer countdown, having topped the Official Singles Chart for five non-consecutive weeks.

Coming in at Number 3 we have Shaboozey’s rollicking A Bar Song (Tipsy), the breakout hit for the US country artist, following his guest feature on Beyoncé’s COWBOY CARTER album. Peaking at Number 3 in the UK, A Bar Song’s success helped spotlight the renaissance of country music in the UK. Fittingly so, there are a whole host of country songs also included in the list; Post Malone and Morgan Wallen’s I Had Some Help (10), Dasha’s Austin (11), and Beyoncé’s former Number 1 TEXAS HOLD ‘EM (37).

Rounding out the Top 5, we have Billie Eilish’s emotional synth-ballad BIRDS OF A FEATHER (4) and Hozier’s first-ever UK Number 1 single, Too Sweet (5).

Further down the Top 10, we have two more former Number 1s that were on repeat all summer; Eminem’s comeback smash Houdini (6), and Benson Boone’s first-ever chart-topper Beautiful Things (8).

We also have two notable breakthrough UK chart hits that have set the Official Singles Chart alight over the past few months, Luton lad Myles Smith with Stargazing (7) and Chappell Roan’s addictive sapphic lament Good Luck, Babe! (9). Chappell's HOT TO GO! also features lower down the list (30).

And of course we couldn’t round out the UK’s Official Songs of the Summer without mentioning the two words on everybody’s lips – BRAT. summer. Charli xcx’s cultural behemoth sees two of the album’s biggest tracks land in the Top 40, album opener 360 (27) and former Number 1 hyperpop banger Guess ft. Billie Eilish (40). Super-viral track Apple lands just outside the Top 40 at 43.
