He  may have lost out on the Christmas Number 1 (after backing his competitors for the top spot), but the dethroning of Justin Bieber was short lived as Love Yourself is back at Number 1 on this week’s Official Singles Chart.

The superstar logs a fourth week at the summit and claims the first chart-topper of 2016 with the track, which is lifted from his latest album Purpose.

Bieber also continues to dominate the Top 5, with Sorry back up a place to Number 2 and What Do You Mean? at 4.

Elsewhere in this week’s Top 5, Adele’s Hello climbs back to 3, and Grace ft. G-Eazy’s You Don’t Own Me is at 5.

New entries and high climbers

Fleur East’s Sax, which was a regular feature on TV over Christmas, rebounds eight spots to Number 6, and MNEK & Zara Larsson’s Never Forget You jumps from 16 to Number 10.

Outside the Top 10, Little Mix’s Love Me Like You leaps from 20 to 11 – a new peak for the song in its 14th week on the Official Chart – and US singer Shawn Mendes zooms 13 places to Number 12 with Stitches.

Further down the chart, a number of songs re-enter this week’s Top 40, including Walk The Moon’s Shut Up & Dance (up 24 to 27), R City’s Locked Away (up 17 to 28), Little Mix’s Black Magic (up 32 to 30), One Direction’s Drag Me Down (up 17 to 31) and Ariana Grande’s Focus (up 17 to 35).

I realize I must be much too old. Everywhere I go they are playing 'You should go and
love yourself'. To me It is such a boring monotone song rendered by a lad
who cannot sing.

And they're STILL saying Shawn Mendes is American... Quick note guys, he's Canadian.

Justin continues to set records in the U.K. when it comes to his singles.. Even at the height of Bieber fever 5 or 6 years ago Justin never experienced this much success worldwide when it came to his singles.. So you can say that Justin Bieber is actually bigger than he ever was before and it would be true.

Oh-em-gee!!! This is like such a great song. It is like totally deep and profound, and JB is like totally the king of pop.

Poor NHS choir taking that mega-tumble to #29. They only hit the top spot thanks to Justin's promo.

Why have you deleted my comment? This article had been up way before Radio 1 announced the Number One.

Who held the record?

Previously jointly held by McFly's 'Baby come back' and Elvis' 2005 reissue of 'One night', both fell 1-20, the latter having the excuse of being limited edition. Coincidentally the record for the biggest ever drop from the top of the album chart is also 1-29, Christina Aguilera's 'Bionic'

Thank you. Why do you think they don't mention this in the article? Because it's a negative record?

Wow! Bieber is going strong on the singles chart. Do you guys think he could dominate the three top spots? It'd be incredible.

New peak for Little Mix, so happy that the song is climbing higher up the charts.

Again, Shawn Mendes is from Canada not the US!

Shawn is Canadian but I think the confusion lies with the fact he was linked to Magcon so much that people automatically assumed he must be American like the rest of those Viners.

Still it's the Official Charts webpage, so it should be corrected

Yup. I knew someone else would point it out, don't even know why I bothered to comment the same.

I am genuinely concerned that no one else will ever be number 1 again

Is it all streaming or is he also selling as well? If it's streaming then no doubt questions will be asked about whether it needs to be looked at and reviewed?

Love Yourself is also number 1 on the sales chart, so streaming isn't to blame - entirely anyway
