Rein Me In increased by less than 1% so has avoided ACR again.

This is honestly the final straw for me. The rules do not work and I've now officially lost any interest in the charts I've ever had after quite a while of having less and less interest.

I feel like the overall music market could've increased by more than 1% though. The sales would've been massive because of Taylor and Olivia. If that's the case, then 'Rein Me In' might be heading on ACR next week after all.

The overall market is only relevant if the song drops in streams.

Any increase for always mean that it dodges ACR.

Oh? I thought 'Rein Me In' lost 9k streams on Spotify from last Friday.

I guess we'll get confirmation from BuzzJack whether it's on ACR or not during the weekend, but I'm going to be very annoyed if it isn't.

From this week's sales report

Squeezed out of the top two for the first time in 18 weeks, Rein Me In dips 2-4 for Sam Fender & Olivia Dean. Perversely, it does so with a 0.75% increase in consumption to 42,432 units and, crucially, a 0.82% increase in streaming points, which means that, having previously been in danger of falling into ACR next week it is now back on SCR and will not have the value of its streams halved for at least four weeks.

Ugh. Of course it dodged at the last minute again… 🙄

the grim reaper showed no mercy this past week, as we lost two notable names in music, both really young.

firstly, rest in peace to oliver tree. i was in car park traffic when i heard about it and my jaw fell to the floor. although i’m not a fan of the songs he charted in the uk with, there were some really good songs from the ugly is beautiful album that i’ve been revisiting in the wake of his death. it’s really brutal he had to go out the way he did. 32 is way too young.

an even younger fate was rap producer tay keith, reported last night. this guy was still a college student when he made the beats of some of the late 2010s rap songs i grew up with like sicko mode, and he never stopped. the hits kept on coming until he suddenly passed in his apartment. 29 is also way too young.

sending my thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of oliver tree and tay keith 🕊️

I already knew about Oliver tree through WatchMojo community post

did… did taylor release more cd singles to prevent olivia from getting the number 1 single?

this is GREED, plain and simple. there is no way taylor felt that threatened by olivia’s success to the point she had to block her from that number 1 spot. this woman hates other women in music and this is further proof.

oh, and the song is mediocre at best.

It's like she can't stand being out of the spotlight for a week at this point. If this doesn't scream desperation, then I don't know what does. She should just focus on her wedding.

exactly! and i’m speaking as someone who has enjoyed a lot of her output too! it’s such a pity she has to squeeze money out of her fans to thrive.

she should absolutely take a break and enjoy her wedding and married life.

It's so obvious Taylor had more physicals made to block Olivia doing the chart double. Defo didn't like the Day 1 album streams.

All three Olivia singles clear 'I Knew It, I Knew You' anyway.

How did Taylor come back to #1 after being far away in the midweek charts? A pity, because Olivia's song is so much better and deserved the #1.

Limited edition CDs and vinyls at the last minute.

Not related to this week’s chart, but RIP Tay Keith and Oliver Tree. The former produced a few major hip-hop singles in the last few years, while the latter had a big hit across Europe earlier this decade.

They were only 29 and 32 years old respectively. Way too young to go. :(

It's a shame that 'Girl Like Me' fell so much this week. I was hoping that PinkPantheress could get another Top 40 single with it.

No dna football by David Guetta, EJAE and Megan thee stallion 😢. It's part better than shakira's 😒

I like 'Dai Dai', but I have to agree that 'DNA (More Than A Game)' is the better song.

Other than Olivia doing great rn, I can’t say I’m a big fan of this chart

Slayyyter out, Ravyn about to be out, Iconic By Mistake being really bad, ari’s new single quickly coming out of the top ten :/

What’s with the lack of ACR hits this month? This is now the third chart of June and the only significant entry that been put on it is ‘Human Nature’.

The fact that ‘Rein Me In’ is still avoiding just baffles me at this point. It needs to go.

How much was the gap between 1st and 2nd?

avatar

Piran

We'll get an update from BuzzJack with the sales figures within the next hour, so I'll let you know when it's out, but 'I Knew It, I Knew You' ended the tracking with 71k units.

Edit: 'Stupid Song' debuted with around 53k units, so there was an 18k gap between #1 and #2.

Olivia has Spotify but Taylor has iTunes. Apple streaming I am not sure.

Yeah the Sales gap but what YouTube view points 🤔?

avatar

Piran

YouTube would have negligible effect on the charts for either song. As you said, Olivia dominated streaming, but Taylor was much further ahead on physical sales.

I prefer Shakira’s other hits from the 2000s and 2010s, but it’s still amazing to see her back in the Top 40 after all this time.

Not even surprised that ‘Three Lions’ got there already. I’d much rather have ‘Sweet Caroline’ or ‘Freed From Desire’ in the region instead.

Disappointed that Olivia didn’t get the #1 this week, but congratulations to her on the biggest opening week of her career and landing three simultaneous Top 5 entries!

Honestly, I think this is her best project to date. I love the maturity of the writing in the slower ballads, the fact that she’s becoming more adventurous and experimental on the upbeat songs, and the versality of her singing throughout. Delighted to see her getting so much success with this era.

My favourites from the new tracks were ‘Expectations’, ‘U + Me = <3’ and ‘My Way’.

‘I Knew It, I Knew You’ holding onto the #1 feels completely wrong. Literally 48 hours ago, it wasn’t even inside the Top 5.

I actually don’t mind the song, but I’m getting really tired of Taylor’s sales tactics. For context, she released limited-edition CDs and vinyl at the last minute.
