Houdini is the first single from Eminem's twelfth studio album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). Released on May 21 2024, Houdini sees the return of Eminem's most famous alter-ego, Slim Shady, as a taste of the album that will chart the character's eventual demise.
Cherry-picking some highlights from Eminem's earlier career highs, Houdini contains samples of his past tracks Without Me, My Name Is and Just Lose It, as well as The Steve Miller Band's 1982 single Abracadabra.
The homages to the past are even more eye-catching in Houdini's music video, directed by Rich Lee, which sees Eminem re-create his Rap-Boy persona from the Without Me video.
Upon its release, on 7 June 2024, Houdini landed straight in at the top of UK Official Singles Chart, with Eminem claiming the biggest opening week for a single of 2024 so far and the rapper's 11th Official Number 1 single in the UK.
Houdini became the Missouri rap superstar’s first UK chart-topper since 2020’s Godzilla, featuring the late Juice WRLD. Official Charts reported that Houdini had clinched Number 1 with 104,800 chart units this week including 13.3 million streams.
