Another flop for Kylie - it's getting to the point where she's had more flops than hits.  Will she be releasing a vinyl and cassingle version of it for her fans to buy, and at least make it top 75...

It's quite evident that the UK has dropped her like a hot potato. It's only the stubborn stains in her fanbase that refuse to accept she's over. lol

Do you like any of her songs though?  I've not heard the album yet but I enjoyed 'Nasty.'  Not everyone can tolerate her music (it's a matter of taste and I can see why some people think her music's naff) but some of us enjoy it.

S

I just heard this whole album..

Nasty needed some energy and some excitement and I felt it was lacking energy 4/10..

'Nasty' was really good and I liked 'When I Get You Alone' but the rest of the album was unfortunately a disappointment. I much prefer 'BB/ANG3L'.

This is the official uk singles chart and it has LaP at 28 .  It wasn't at #1 last week either. So I'm not sure what chart you're referring to but it's not the one most people think of as the official chart (this one above.)

It's a great, classic, song though.

Chart Review 23/08/24

honestly whoever produces the chart show nowadays needs to stick one up their-

OH. HEY. I DIDN'T SEE YOU THERE. HI.

Welcome to yet another round of summer shenanigans, where I end up regretting my comments in a matter of months' time, and the biggest hits of the day struggle to contain the onslaught of golden oldies like Bruce Springsteen and Noah Kahan. And boy, is it a chore to slog through when you've got Radio 1 in the background to assist you in your perils.

But enough complaining about the producer's generic taste in music and onto the matter at hand. A whopping TWO new entries (whoa, slow down there young'en!) and a re-entrant make up the listings this time round, that specific re-entry coming from Post Malone who is quite clearly on a mission to burn through as many music genres as possible before it all blows up in his face. Rap, dad-pop, TikTok bait, Radio 2-lite strums, he's done it all. Except prog-rock, obviously. Clearly that collab with Marillion is never gonna happen in my lifetime then. This time however, his latest album F-1 Trillion is an attempt to get as many country singers on planet Earth together and make an album out of it. Even though Luke Combs gets two songs to duet with him on, but I don't think that's really worth complaining about in my eyes. Thus, Guy For That hits a new peak of 25, I Had Some Help creeps back up to 29 despite ACR creeping up steadily behind it, and Pour Me A Drink (that re-entry) also getting another chance to shine at 39. So you know, all well and good there.

Except it isn't, because there was stiff competition on the album chart from The Script, whose first effort for 5 years is their 1st since guitarist Mark Sheehan decided that popping his clogs was a more worthwhile effort than making progressively less-good albums in his lifetime. There's also 4 members of the band now, but that's not much to get shocked by. Either way, Post had some rivals to take care off. And he sure did. Helped by doing some signing sessions or whatever, and the Irish quarter somehow managing to lose a few thousand of their sales midweek (deserved, none of the stuff from it made the Top 100), F-1 Trillion thus becomes Post Malone's 3rd chart-topping album on these shores, and his first since Hollywood's Bleeding in 2019. So you know, congrats to him and all that. Just wait 'til he collabs with David Guetta in 2027. Then you'll really want to punch his guts.

You can do that to me in 2027 if I get this prediction wrong, by the way.

Naturally the rest of the chart couldn't be bothered to add up to much when faced with such a musical maverick (irony may or may not be included here), but that hasn't stopped the Top 10 from delivering us a few surprises. Sticking to the top spot are Chase & Status and Stormzy, proving that not every vaguely challenging song in the charts nowadays has to evaporate faster than my ego. If anything, BACKBONE is more a signal that the public have had enough of soppy shlop. Even if Chappell Roan's return to No.2 has that stench of Cirque de Soleil about it. Speaking of which, HOT TO GO! is now in the Top 10. Yes, I am ecstatic. Yes, I am delirious. Yes, this is a victory for new artists in the face of danger. But most importantly, she isn't a 1-hit wonder. I can think of a few people that will be morbidly upset by this (you know who you are).

But what of the newbies? Well they're kinda boring, can't lie. Entering at 7 is the grand return of the one, the only, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. Or, to the commoner like me and you, Lady Gaga. Four years have passed since Chromatica injected a career revival directly into her shoulders, and now it's time to see what she's got. There's just one problem with that though. Die With A Smile is kinda mid.

This is the point where you dislike the post because I disagree with the majority.

Can't lie to you, I've heard far better comeback singles in my time, and Gaga's 2024 return in somewhat lacking in something. Maybe it's because she brought Bruno Mars along, and specifically, the Bruno Mars from self-indulgent chill-out duo Silk Sonic to the table, bringing along with him the feeling that you're listening to Teddy Swims covering one of Billie Eilish's album tracks. And it doesn't help that it looks like she's got one eye on the Radio 2 market, rather than putting more effort into your latest grand statement. Remember how Born This Way brought with it messages of LGBT representation, wonky synth-donks, and achingly long videos? That was 13 years ago. What I wouldn't do to have those days back again. She is climbing on Spotify though, so this is not going away in a hurry. I just hope it somehow grows on my by the time it completes it's ascent.

Fun Fact: I know it won't.

Also breaching the perimeters is Gigi Perez, who is actually a woman. Not a man. I may or may not have mixed up her gender in previous weeks when talking about the New Jersey native, but at least that's sorted now. Anyways, Gigi hails from a long line of people who heard Passenger's Let Her Go and thought it was the greatest thing on Earth. Noah Kahan, Mark Ambor, Myles Smith, the list goes on and on. 2021 release Sometimes (Backwood) has over 100 million streams on Spotify but it somehow never charted, so I guess that issue how now been dealt with. Sailor Song moves up to 35 today, and I genuinely hadn't took the time to listen for more than 5 seconds before this hit the 40. It's just too middle-of-the-road for me, I don't know. It just seems like TikTok fodder to me, and I'm not really getting the hype. There was no reason to skip the song on Radio 1's Chart Show though. That just makes it look like we're listening to North Korean transmissions, rather than the most popular audio countdown that we know of. Maybe being a lesbian has something to do with that. Gustice for Gigi.

I meant to misspell that.

Outside the 40 and Hozier is back to obscurity again, new single Nobody's Soldier unable to escape the shadow of you-know-what and limps to 48. Speaking of scruffy-haired singer-songwriters, Benson Boone clearly couldn't capitalise on his album any sooner, new release Pretty Slowly faring little better at 53. And the only other newbie is LISA from BLACKPINK deciding to duet with Latin superstar ROSALÍA for New Woman down at 55. And no, I have literally nothing else to add in this paragraph.

So it's off to next week then, and we have THE album battle of the summer. Forget everyone else in the shops right now, it's all about Short 'n' Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter, versus Romance by Fontaines D.C.. I cannot hold my excitement any longer for this soon-to-be heavyweight clash. There's also new releases from Myles Smith, Coldplay, Travis Scott, Nathan Dawe, and Central Cee, but you don't care about any of those, right? Right? RIGHT!? Eh, I'll be there for the fallout.

SICK AIN'T IT TIER:

Charli XCX [22] (It was nice knowing ya.), Chappell Roan [10] (Can you tell I'm happy yet?), Chase & Status ft. Stormzy [1], Shaboozey [13] (Still here on my own loving this then.), Charli XCX [9]

GREAT LIKE A CHEESE GRATER TIER:

Chappell Roan [2], Bruce Springsteen [40], Sabrina Carpenter [14] (Get ready for some mad shenanigans next week.), *NSYNC [12]

69 (geddit?) TIER:

Chappell Roan [31], Adam Port/Stryv/Glass Ceiling Alert [11], Taylor Swift [21] (A video came out on Wednesday. Assuming you call tour footage a video that is.), Billie Eilish [3], Jordan Adetunji [8], Sabrina Carpenter [17], The Blessed Madonna/Clementine Douglas [34] (Her duet with Kylie's flopped.)

I LIKE IT TIER:

Madonna [28], Charli XCX ft. Billie Eilish [4], Noah Kahan [32] (Just the 47 weeks now for this. Joy. 😔), Post Malone & Morgan Wallen [29] (Surprised it wasn't hooked off ACR to be honest with you.), Teddy Swims [23]

STILTED AND AVERAGE TIER:

Gigi Perez [35] (Hadn't heard this until it charted and Radio 1 threw it off a cliff to milk Hozier dry. Clearly, I wasn't missing out on much.), Sonny Fodera/D.O.D./Jazzy [16], Gracie Abrams [37], Billie Eilish [36], Hanumankind/Kalmi [15], Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars [7]

NOT A FAN TIER:

Dasha [6], JADE [18] (So why does this sample Sandie Shaw again?), Post Malone & Luke Combs [25], Myles Smith [19], Coldplay [33] (Their new one is better. Even if I'm having trouble remembering it. And I just listened to WE PRAY.), The Kid LAROI [38]

BORING TIER:

Benson Boone [20], Post Malone & Blake Shelton [39], Hozier [27], BL3SS/CamrinWatsin/bbyclose [5] (Would you actually recognise these guys in the street if you saw them?)

GET OUT OF MY SIGHT ASAP TIER:

Benson Boone [26], David Guetta & OneRepublic [24], Teddy Swims [30]

NEWBIES:

Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars - Die With A Smile [7] (D+, see me after class.)

Hozier - Nobody's Soldier [48] (OK, this is loads better than Too Sweet. How come he didn't release this first?)

Benson Boone - Pretty Slowly [53] (It sure is slow. Until the inevitable loud part, like, 3 minutes in or whatever.)

LISA ft. ROSALÍA - New Woman [55] (We already have JADE from Little Mix to heap false praise over, we don't need the K-Pop equivalent thank you.)

(P.S. Apparently trip-hop legends until they weren't Massive Attack are doing a homecoming gig in Bristol, and they couldn't be more enviroment-friendly if they started making music out of rocks. I mean, could you imagine walking from wherever you live to a massive field in the edge of Wales? It must be like torture.)

Just the two debuts this week. One is a duet which is fine but I expected a bit more coming from both of these amazing artists, while the other is effectively female Noah Kahan but better and I’m very glad we’re getting even more LGBTQ+ representation in the charts! 🌈

We also got a re-entry that I don’t really like but thankfully the rest of the album is much better, and at least it finally booted out ‘Birds In The Sky’.

Hoping things will become more interesting again in September…

i’m at a local gig tonight, so i won’t do a takeaway or even comment/reply much. so i’ll just leave you with a dozen songs ive been listening to this past week, those being:

  • i got heaven - mannequin p***y
  • celebrity skin - hole
  • all of this will end - snarls
  • loop it and leave it - jpegmafia
  • rock bottom - modern baseball
  • you know what they do to guys like us in prison - my chemical romance
  • airhead - honey revenge
  • honey - halsey
  • madra - newdad
  • adore adore adore - sprints
  • pretty please - dutch melrose & benny mayne

thanks piran and alfie! dw about not hearing the songs listed, i think ive got the most “niche” taste out of everyone here lol. the gig was amazing, it was an ex-coursemate’s band so i wanted to show up and give him my support. i was high off life and even got into my first moshpit which was fun!

also alfie hole are amazing. it’s just a big shame courtney love’s public image overshadowed her band’s music

Glad you had a good time at the gig! Mosh pits are a lot of fun tbf. I may have got into one too many of them back in my uni years though haha.

Don't bother pointing fingers at me, because I wasn't involved at all. I just post my review, upvote whatever fits my fancy, and then retreat from the battlegrounds.

@Piran, 100% agree with you, but I can already see victim playing and digs starting in the replies to your post. I partly took blame I'm not playing victim.. also I can't be bothered to look at last week's top 100 so if you replied I don't care.. like you and I Said it ain't deep just don't make it ridiculously deep

Are you living in an alternate universe to the rest of us, or something?

It wasn't I who brought up last weeks events, it was Piran, and then you came in and spoke about people being nasty to you - so by that, I assume you meant me.

I am happy to draw a line under it, but I respectfully ask that you do the same and refrain from talking about or referring to me on this site, and that way we'll both be happy. Not to sound rude, but I'm being as honest as I can be here.

Wasant trying to be like that, I was just saying that I didint like those topics being brung up. I felt when you said im playing victim to piran you were mentioning me in a insulting way even if not meant like that it's still something that will give a reaction.

I'm stopping this argument here and now but I would like to add it'd ridiculous that you don't want to speak ever from one week.. if I reply to you about a song or artist and you can't help but be mad from a week ago I think that tells who's angry here (Respectfully)

While the summer has been a bit dull in terms of movement, I will say that NSYNC, Madonna and Bruce Springsteen in the same Top 40 and all of them looking to have stability is a very pleasant surprise!

It feels wrong that ‘Stargazing’ is on ACR before ‘Austin’.

‘Good Luck, Babe!’ may have missed out on the #1 again, but I’m delighted that ‘Hot To Go!’ finally made the Top 10 and that Chappell now has multiple appearances in the region. :)

Oh, and her performance of the latter with Olivia on the ‘GUTS’ tour was absolutely fantastic. Definitely wouldn’t mind it becoming an official remix!
