any flo fans out there?  anyone getting their new album?  & are they big in the uk?  also any linkin park fans?  gonna get their new album?  here in the states in the 2000s, linkin park was HUGE!  i can't say i was a huge fan of theirs back in the day, but i am now LOL!  i actually have a co-worker buddy that hung out with them on the beach in california right before they hit it big.  the guys were smoking weed LOL!  but fun to hang out, especially chester.  the band was working on the hybrid theory album during this time.  too bad no smartphones back then!  the band was talking about their new album & hoped it would be a success :)

So, so happy to see Kylie achieving her 10th number 1 album in the UK! When some ppl comments she's flopping, how it can be for an artist that has a 35+  career in pop still charting, having number 1s and still be relevant???I can't imagine all those new pop stars in 35 yrs on...

S

Starling

I loved the album but it flopped.. it had 3 weeks in the top 100 (1 fueled by 2 other big names) and didn't get past number 59. It's not the worst possibility ever but the album definitely shows her decline in popularity

I have been listening to some of the songs on this chart and to be honest, not all of them are that bad

couldn't agree more ;)  i sure miss it when there was more civility on the charts' chat boards.  i always loved it when everyone was buzzing about the chart...just like on the billboard hot 100 chart back when we all could comment.

here in the states, i had the milli vanilli album back in the day & 'i'm gonna miss you', & 'blame it on the rain' were huge over here.  can anyone explain to me why milli vanilli is on the chart this wk?  anyhow, i wasn't into the billboard hot 100 chart back when they were on it, but they were big over here around 1989.  also you can check out their other big hits 'baby, don't forget my number' & 'girl you know it's true' *big #1 hit here in america*.

milli vanilli and crowded house are back in the charts because their respective songs were in a netflix series “monsters: the lyle and erik mendenez story”

so basically it’s having another saltburn moment 😅

Sunshine Gal

oh ok LOL!  i was just so surprised to see milli vanilli on the chart.  cuz that's going way back to 1989-90

yeah the menendez brothers are big news here...i was 14 in 1989 when they murdered their parents.  huge news story here.

love linkin park! somewhere i belong, don’t stay, given up, papercut and points of authority are amazing nu-metal songs fr

i'm actually 1 yr older than chester & back then, i wasn't into them too much.  but i def. remember when the hybrid theory album peaked @ #2.  are you getting their new album?  already got my pre-order, can't wait to check it out.  about 6 mos. ago i was starving for some good music & started re-listening to artists from the 2000s.  so i listen to hybrid theory & meteora, i've been addicted ever since.

papercut, figure 09, lying from you *awesome as !*, points of authority, somewhere i belong, closer to you are some of my very faves.  i always crank up their schit loud in my car LOL!

Pretty bad chart this week sorree, worse than last week`s.

Can we just have a new song at number 1 ? The reason I bet it`s been this same song for 8 or 9 weeks is just the lack of new songs in the charts which I sadly resent.

The only good artists who have been in the charts at the minute in my eyes are Tems (Burning) which is brilliant , Benson Boone (Beautiful Things), Teddy Swims (Lose Control)  Noah Kahan (Stick Season) and Tommy Richmond (Million dollar Baby). I listen to these on repeat along with the mostly 80s 90s and 2010s music I like.

Revisiting an old chart from this time in 2018 (a really great year for pop music), I reminisced over how good late twenty-teens pop music was. There was just so much of it! We really need some new stars and regular new entries because there are songs in this weeks chart that have been there since last Christmastime.

Also I don`t think I`ve ever heard a song worsely written or sung than Diet Pepsi. It`s just earsplittingly awful! And I thought Espresso and please please please were annoying!

Do any of you agree?

So you like and continue to stream 4 of the most overplayed songs this year? people like you are what makes the chart more stagnant and less interesting

no way they got strip that down to re-enter at number 41. not only is the song absolute 0/10 trash, but the line “love when you hit the ground, girl” makes it an inappropriate song of liam’s to re-enter, yknow, considering he died hitting the ground

S

Starling

2

You have to be a Karen to complain about the smallest detail of a song, it's a fun song and who actually cares honestly 🙄 respect liam, it's ok not to like a song but wouldent you say that's "Criticizing peoples music taste" which you were apparently against.

S

Maybe it re entered because it's his first and highest charting solo song 🙄

Chart Review In Short 25/10/24

Mr. I'm Too Good For A Surname is back chaps, and I'm guessing I got tons of backlash last week for not treating dead musicians with more respect than I should've. Not to be a pedantic or anything, but my commiserations to members of the afterlife depends on the music they made during their lifetimes. If someone like, say, Grian Chatten of Fontaines D.C. suddenly kicked the bucket, I would be bringing out the tearful emojis and sixth-form poetry to sum up how distraught I was. Meanwhile, if a dingus like Cian Durcot ended up popping his clogs, I'd have a hard time trying to keep my true feelings about the artist hidden while writing my condolences. Given Liam Payne is somewhat in the middle of these two categories, the words I put down stating how mid his solo career was probably ring true when compared to his somewhat more enjoyable One Direction days.

And yes I'm stalling my thoughts on the charts, it's hardly the most eventful thing in the world nowadays is it? (Ignore all the mad things that's happened in 2024.)

Anyways, this week's collection of hits and misses has 3 newbies in it, and just as many re-entries because of a certain Payne on my backside, Night Changes deciding to knock it's previous peak of No.7 out of the park, with Story Of My Life and What Makes You Beautiful also having a good time in the eyes of the fangirls. Speaking of which, ROSÉ out of BLACKPINK might have officially ended up with the first K-POP song to not end up being frontloaded by the bots and the bees, although you can blame Bruno Mars for making APT. as good as it is. And by good, I mean slightly OK. In other news, Kylie Minogue achieves chart-topper number 10 on the album chart despite the singles from Tension II flopping to the end of the world, a deluxe edition of Gracie Abrams's album results in her grabbing another Top 20 success, and Morgan Wallen continues a one-man mission to prove that his endless riches on the Billboard charts can work wonders over here, with predictably mixed results. Sabrina's still No.1 by the way, but now her crown is under threat from surprise Spotify queen Gigi Perez, who now has the 2nd most popular song in the country and still hasn't impacted Capital's Big Top 40. To be fair, neither has Gracie Abrams, so every cloud and all that.

Next week, there's new stuff from Lady Gaga, Disclosure, Mimi Webb, and a bunch of other artists who released C-tier material. Fight me.

AMAZING TIER:

Charli XCX [38], Chappell Roan [8], Linkin Park [33], Charli XCX [24], Shaboozey [28]

GREAT TIER:

Chappell Roan [15], Sabrina Carpenter [21] (End of an era. About dang time.), Adam Port/Stryv/Totally Hilarious Sight Gag Here [14]

GOOD TIER:

Sabrina Carpenter [1], Billie Eilish [16], Tate McRae [37], One Direction [23] (Just a tad overplayed. Emphasis on 'tad'.), Chappell Roan [18]

OK TIER:

Billie Eilish [17], Sonny Fodera/Jazzy/D.O.D. [7], Gracie Abrams [19] (Confuse this one for Risk, I dare you.), Charli XCX (+ Ariana Grande) [20], Gracie Abrams [5], Addison Rae [12], Teddy Swims [13], ROSÉ & Bruno Mars [4] (Oh gosh, do I have to praise a K-Pop artist? I think I might throw up y'know.)

EH TIER:

Gigi Perez [2], KSI ft. Trippie Redd [10], Coldplay [39] (FLOP ALERT.), Sabrina Carpenter [11], Morgan Wallen [40] (Considering Radio 1 didn't touch his other hit, I guess this is a win-win situation.), One Direction [6], Ndotz [27], Coldplay [30]

DISLIKE TIER:

Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars [3], One Direction [9] (Thanks Mum for making this song reek of tryhardy-ness.), Myles Smith [32], Teddy Swims [25], The Weeknd/Playboi Carti [22]

BAD TIER:

The Kid LAROI [Yet Another Week at 36], cassö/RAYE/D-Block Europe [31] (Ew.), Hozier [35], BL3SS/bbyclose/CamrinWatsin [34]

AWFUL TIER:

Benson Boone [26], Teddy Swims [29]

ALL THE NEW STUFF*:

ROSÉ & Bruno Mars - APT. [4] (It may sound like two teenagers imitating HOT TO GO!, but it's lightyears ahead of any of her compatriots. Good for her I suppose.)

*One Direction - Night Changes [6] (Gonna be honest with you, the 1D ballads are hardly my cup of tea. No matter how poignant they are, I still remain reluctant to them.)

*One Direction - Story Of My Life [9] (I'd like it more if my mum wasn't obsessed with it.)

Gracie Abrams - That's So True [19] (It sounds like most of her other singles, except with a tiny bit more pizzazz. Just like a true deluxe single should be.)

*One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful [23] (Bit of an unorthodox choice to mourn to, isn't it?)

Morgan Wallen - Love Somebody [40] (Better than his other hit, but not by much.)

*Liam Payne ft. Quavo - Strip That Down [41] (Again, it's kinda difficult to grieve to a song that tells you to remove articles of clothing.)

*Liam Payne/Rita Ora - For You [43] (Who else forgot this existed before he perished? Just me? Alright then.)

Tyler, The Creator - NOID [50] (Only released on a Monday, so he has an excuse for this song doing poorly. Then again, with how it sounds like, I'm surprised he got as high as No.50.)

JADE - Fantasy [52] (I don't care what Jools Holland thinks, her solo career is well on it's way to retirement already. That reunion can't come soon enough.)

Wizkid ft. Brent Faiyaz - Piece Of My Heart [61] (The power of Afrobeats can only take you so far. Aside from that, it's a bit of a snoozefest this song.)

George Michael - Careless Whisper [69] (A 40th anniversary re-release on 12" vinyl for completely no reason what-so-ever. No.12 in the midweeks by the way.)

RAYE - Oscar Winning Tears. [75] (TikTok-powered energy for this album track. And it sounds as good as I've made it sound like. So not that much.)

Liam Payne - Teardrops [85] (Originally flopped back in March, and for good reason. It just screams "generic ballad" through and through".)

Brent Faiyaz - Best Time [89] (The album this is from turns 1 year old on Sunday if anyone's wondering. It's also a measly 82 seconds long. Blame TikTok again.)

* = re-entry for an old song because of sympathy I presume

See you in seven days when the trauma of Halloween catches up to everybody.

I think she's the highest charting Argentinian artist of all-time in my personal charts. 'Carita Triste' is also contending for #1 next week! Any other Emilia songs you think I would like? :)

I’m surprised that none of the solo Liam singles made it into the Top 40 this week. I would've especially liked to see 'For You' back in the region.

I wasn’t expecting to like ‘That’s So True’ as much as I do but I’m pleased to see it here nonetheless.

I have no strong opinions on ‘Love Somebody’ either way. It’s better than most of what Morgan Wallen has previously charted with but I still don’t really care for his music and his personality kind of too.

Glad to see ‘Oscar Winning Tears’ debut on the chart for RAYE. One of my personal highlights from ‘My 21st Century Blues’ and I still stand by it being one of the best albums of last year! ❤️

While the news of Liam’s passing is still shocking and saddening, I’m happy that ‘Night Changes’ is the highest of his re-entries this week. Definitely one of the best 1D songs for me. Their music was such a big part of my childhood and I never thought we’d lose one of their members this soon… 😔

The BLACKPINK girls have been really impressing me as of late! First Lisa with ‘Moonlit Floor’, then Jennie with ‘Mantra’, and now Rosé debuting in the Top 5 with ‘APT’ which might have one of the most fun music videos of the year to date. :)

It also means that Bruno Mars now has two songs in the Top 5 simultaneously. Good to see him making a very successful comeback on the charts!
