Have the Killers dropped out of the top 100?

Have to say I have heard the Elton and Ed Christmas song, and to be honest its a bit ordinary. I was expecting something a bit more sensational than that from those 2 artists, its not that great at all. Maybe it will grow on me. I tend to think in terms of Christmas songs its all been done long ago hence why the old ones always re-enter the charts each year. It amazes me though why do people need to download or stream the same songs as they did year after year? Surely the charts doesn't need to be polluted with xmas songs? We need new stuff to keep coming.

Hello everybody!! Sincerely hoping everything is going well with all of you, especially for my dear Piran, Coolocelot, Damian, Mateusz, Kiesling...I´ve been reading all your comments, critiques, and personal charts and album reviews...is a whole jambalaya created by the Christmas songs...I even saw Feliciano´s "Feliz Navidad" reentering at 64....what I believe is that, as Piran manifested before, a couple of weeks ago, she will continue her "Stoplight" comments and growing-dropping opinions....mine is that after all this beautiful season, which should last a couple of weeks more, say 6 weeks of Christmas so we can enjoy the whole singles list without caring who´s # 1 or whatever ( I´m fond on Christmas and the spirit it brings, so I enjoy it to the fullest...I must confess that my fav until last year was "All I want for Crhistmas is you" by Mariah...but it dropped from my number one...I still don´t have my #1 Christmas song yet, there´s one by David archuleta, from who I asked you the other day why he doesn´t chart in The UK, its name is "Christmas everyday" and I super love it...it´s not in the singles chart and I don´t think is gonna be, so I still have to decide among "Santa tell me", "Santa baby", "I´ll be home for Christmas" by Camila Cabelllo, "Kelly Clarkson - Underneath the Tree" and "Driving Home for Christmas" by Chris Rea (Which I love mostly for family matters in the olden times)
But I seriously believe that after the Christmas wind gust, some songs by Westlife´s album like "Magic" or "Starlight" plus other songs like Oliver Heldens x Anabel Englund - "DEJA VU", Alan Walker x Benjamin Ingrosso - Man On The Moon, Silva Hound ft. Michael Kovach and Chi-Chi - Addict, and "One More Sleep" by Leona Lewis, will take over the chart, and some songs that are floating in the chart will be sinking in the top 20....lamenting that "Everywhere" did the greatest drop down from # 23 to # 97 😮

I personally think the reason the children in need single failed to do better was far too many people dont actually download anymore, as streaming as superseeded even downloading. I remember when they first played it on the radio they were pleading for everyone to please download it as its the only way they get any money for the children. If that doesn't prove my point streaming doesn't make any money I don't know what does.
And backs up that it shouldn't be allowed to influence chart positions.
All the top 100 is now is a listening chart.

avatar

⁉️

0

Or maybe it flopped because it was a sh*te song. 🤔

DK

Dave Knight

0

Its actually a very catchy song, and quite popular, it was a hit for Fleetwood Mac twice. And Anne Marie was faithful with her cover in terms of she didn't alter it very much. I thought it should have been number 1. But the minute the DJ on Radio 1 and Radio 2 announced please only download it, streaming won't make the children money, I more or less knew it was doomed, which it did fail because number 26 would have been concidered a flop in the old days, and not much better now.
And the fact it bombed to 97 the next week is pretty dire. The whole industry needs revamping its dead in my eyes.
The official chart is now a listeners streaming chart.

I guess Christmas' songs have invaded the top 100 as never bfr. Plenty of festive songs. Happy to see Santa Baby by Kylie one more year. I really wish All I Want for Christmas, penned by Kylie and Chris Martin could have charted

avatar

Paula Dåle

1

Looks like GAYLE needs to go back to school and do her ABC's . She sounds like every other singer out there right now. ABCDEFU, very much a LOUD ABCDESHITE . Hahahaha! It is a sad state of affairs when Christmas classics like Last Christmas , Driving home for Christmas, Fairytale of New York and All I want for Christmas keep coming back into the charts, as none of these new artists can create something unique and original for the festive season. It is a testament to an era gone by that icons were able to produce their own music and style without relying on copycat sounds and styles x

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

gotta disagree there unfortunately, it’s not that mariah, the pogues etc can’t create anything new (matter fact, mariah released a new christmas song earlier this year), it’s because people always stream the same ones every christmas therefore they keep re-entering every year.

avatar

Damián

2

Agree. Mariah's new festive song is awesome and Gary Barlow has released a new album of wonderful Xmas new material, but ppl seems to listen to the same songs all over again

Streaming should not make up the singles chart.

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

0

oh, you’re that kind of person. a couple peeps here might be sick and tired of explaining why streaming should be included, but i’m not - i have a field time doing so. :)

anyways, yes it should, it’s how people listen nowadays and it makes up a large percentage of the music market. if the chart was sales only, it wouldn’t be accurate - no one buys physical singles anymore unless it’s for a collection (physical albums are still popular, however).

, there’s a sales singles chart i can direct you too - go to where the different chart links are above this chart, look for “singles” (it’s the first one), click that and then click “sales” - and bam, you’ve got it! :)

DK

Dave Knight

0

I agree for so many reasons I have explained on here loads of times. Its turned the charts into a listeners chart.

A

Avatar

0

Let there be a listeners chart so

A

Avatar

0

Thats exactly what it is. And they have to manipulate it to keep it from being all tracks off a popular artists album.

DK

Dave Knight

-1

But why would a physical chart or sales chart be inaccurate?
Once something is purchased the job is done towards chart position.
Streaming is more likely to be inaccurate especially in terms of album positioning because you only have to click play on the album on Spotify and it goes towards a higher chart position, you don't technically have to play the whole album, so this must be happening to singles aswell, someone might just click play on a single, then skip it to something else, so how is this accurate towards what people are listening to?
With a genuine sale the job is already done, even a download the jobs officially done.
Why else did the DJ's plead with listers to download the children in need single and not stream it otherwise the children won't get their money. What more evidence do you need that streaming doesn't pay the artist properly. In this case not enough clearly downloaded it as it peaked at 26 and has since bombed at 97, so this to me highlights that streaming is dominating the charts that badly that even downloads doesnt get a fair position in the official charts. For example, last year I commented about the fact on the download chart there was a song that was number 1,yet that same song was no where to be found inside the official top 100. Work that one out?

105 consecutive weeks in the Top 100 for Blinding Lights this week. Looks like it's at good is it gets. Brilliant track.

Yeah but it also means the charts are stagnant. We need fresh stuff coming into the charts, not the same old stuff for years on end!

Last Christmas is back in the Top 10. Let's see whether it can make it 2 years in a row at No. 1 😉

DK

Dave Knight

1

Yeah but last year it peaked at number 1 after Christmas came and went, oh hang on the charts are such an accurate place these days isn't it?
Bit like all the Halloween related tracks entered the charts the week after Halloween, yeah lovely 🙄

K

Just don't put too much attention to it. It is kinda frustrating

K

They said Flowers (Say My Name) would peak this week but it still stayed at No. 7 and Ewan McVicar despite being No. 2 on the trending charts fell

Nice to see everyone got behind the children in need single Everywhere, it was a new entry at 26 last week and has bombed at number 97. They we're relying on downloads, seems as though streaming has even mucked that up! 🙁

yeah but with the exception of do they know it’s christmas, charity songs usually tank after one week. though this is also down to the christmas tsunami flooding the charts again lol

of course people purchase-download still! i didn’t check the itunes chart on the week it came out, but i’m pretty sure it reached number 1 there (can someone correct me if i’m wrong?). charity singles though are usually big on purchased formats rather than streaming because obviously people care more for the cause rather than the music itself.

plus, chart positions shouldn’t matter as long as enough was raised to help the cause.

this is all coming from someone who bought a silly remake of vindaloo on itunes when the euros were on to raise money for the nhs 😂

JH

Between nine of the Xmas songs, Heat Waves and Blinding Lights there are eleven songs in the top 100 which have spent over a year on the charts. Would this be a record?

avatar

Joshua Sombra

Official charts, can you please stop with all this ACR and 3 track rule nonsense. They don't need to be enforced on the charts anymore. Next years charts better have no ACR and the 3 track rule anymore. ACR is rubbish as it ruins chart performance. The 3 song rule is ridiculous as there are unnecessary dropouts from artists. Also, it's not fair as only three songs as a lead artist are allowed. The exceptions for more chart entries on the same week are if they are featured on a song. Finally, it ain't fair on Adele because she really deserved an album bomb for '30' and Dua Lipa deserved an album bomb with both of her albums.

avatar

Reece Allen

2

But then people would also moan when Ed Sheeran, Kanye etc wouldve flooded the charts with their releases. Its a double edged sword really but it was made to prevent album bombs in the charts to give other releases a fighting chance. Maybe the amount of songs an artist can have should be increased from 3 to 5, for example, but not removed altogether

Ths singles chart is a joke, only tracks that are officially released as singles should be included, not album tracks a single release should have its own unique ref no, just like 45s did, a single is a single, not an album track, if you want the most popular songs it should be a totally different free for all chart

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

4

it’s become a songs chart rather than a singles chart atp so occ could at least change the name or put singles in a seperate chart

avatar

Michael

3

Yes, Last Christmas and Mariah Carey shouldn't be on there unless there's an official re-release of these songs. Especially in the last week of November - and they're in the top 5!

Agree, it's true what you say. A single song is chosen by the artist or the record company to promote an album or whatever. On the other hand, non singles songs are album's cut

Isnt it about time that singles were limited to a weekly length on the charts, just because its getting streamed doesnt mean its being purchased, after all if you had the physical copy you would play it but it wouldnt contribute to chartdom, re-entries every year due to streaming by the same people year after year is denying new tracks chart status

so for anyone wondering about the sudden number 2 debut on my personal charts for “addict”, i’ll explain the song and my thoughts on it: 1) it’s from the adult cartoon “hazbin hotel” which i never heard of until my friend showed me this song, and 2) it’s an edm song. surprising, huh? but edm as a genre has been growing on me a lot (i can thank one user here for that), and the beat in this song reminds me of edm you’d hear in the early 2010s, which gives it a bit of a nostalgic feel! the vocals may not be the best, but michael and chi-chi (voicing their characters angel and cherri in the music video) have such good chemistry in this song and honestly, it kinda fits in well with this type of song, especially when the lyrics are about causing chaos and being addicted to it. it’s really good! i don’t know if this would be your thing as it’s an unusual song for the genre, but i definitely recommend it. strong 8/10 from me.

if anyone here likes "coming for you", check out "who i smoke" by yungeen ace, spinabenz, fastmoney goon and whoppa wit da choppa (phew) - the song samples vanessa carlton's "a thousand miles" (a song i truly hate) and has similar lyrics to coming for you, but the beat and deliveries from each rapper are even harder than "coming for you"!

yeah, i f*cking despise "a thousand miles", but these 4 made such a hard song with it. strong 9/10, wish it was longer

‘Spit Of You’ has to go Top 40 in the New Year! 😍

Yeah, I know I’m a bit late to this one, but it’s become one of my new obsessions this week. :)

Buzzing about the new peak for ‘Seventeen Going Under’ too!

I think it’s definitely going to be in the Top 20 of my next personal chart!

I still prefer ‘Seventeen Going Under’ as a whole, but ‘Spit Of You’ is definitely growing on me quicker. :)
