Christmas Chart Week of Sales and Units, From 25th to 31st December 2020, As This Charts includes Christmas True Charts + #1 data was taken from 25th (1st Day of Christmas) For 1st Jan Weekly For Christmas, I Know Ladbaby Don't Stop Me Eatin' Was the broadcast Christmas Media #1 but the sales is early from the 18th
to 24th December, that not Christmas #1, Wham was, each year even with the calender The UK Christmas Charts never include Christmas Day Sales or the Week as it cuts off early sometimes nearly a week behind Christmas Day,

So, Wham has finally set a new chart record of taking 36 years to reach number one. Three years ago, and also (but not in the same year) Mariah set unwanted chart records by dropping from number two out of the 100 on the first chart of the New Year then when all the festive records dropped out.
This week Ladbaby has a big drop from one to 78, not a record by any means but a significant fall to say the least.
Correct me if I am wrong, but the current record holder of biggest drop from number one in a single week belongs to the Lightning Seeds with Three Lions when that tumbled down to 97 following England's defeat in the World Cup semi final during summer 2018.
No single in chart history has ever fallen from one out of the hundred in a single week. This Friday that will change when Wham sets that most unwanted chart record.
Also other chart records will be set, with the most number of dropouts out of the 100 in a single week as we kiss goodbye to all the festive records, a new record of re-entries will occur, the most number of singles in the top 10 to fall out of the 100 in a single week, with nine expected to go, you get the picture, I could go on but won't, so we all wait with baited breath for the new chart.
Karl Fursey
Happy belated New Year.

Happy New Year 2021 everyone. So nice to see Last Christmas made it to #1. It was there in my charts also ... on January 26, 1985 ... toppling That-Other-1984-Christmas-Song, finally ... :-)
Joshua Sombra
Do you guys think that 'Diamonds' by Sam Smith will be off ACR next week?
Mrsliver
No Time for tears is going to be huge after the Christmas songs plummet

I recently found out that there is a radio programme based off this chart, and I would like to keep up to date so I started listening to it
Dominic Lalor
I am so glad that Wham! have got to NO.1 after all these years again. It just goes to show how fantastic Wham! and pop was during the late 70's, 80's and early 90's. It was Britain's greatest pop era. Thank you Andrew and rest in peace George.

There's going to be a lot of records dropping out next week!
Ronald van Veen
Great to see that the original version of SANTA BABY by EARTHA KITT still managed to get to #96 this year!
DamiƔn
But Kylie's version is at 31
Ronald van Veen
Which is great of course but always remember where a cover comes from!
Cameron
Now the top five best selling singles that have never reached #1 are:
Maroon 5 & Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger
Oasis - Wonderwall
John Legend - All Of Me
Eminem & Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie
The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale of New York
Dominic Lalor
You forgot about Vienna by Ultravox.
Cameron
Vienna isn't on the list lol https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/the-best-selling-singles-of-all-time-on-the-official-uk-chart__21298/
Dominic Lalor
My fault Cameron, i didn't know you meant songs that were on the list.
Cameron
No worries lol
BrianJonesG8ASO
Where is "Boris Johnson is a F*cking C*nt"? It was number 5 in the Christmas chart, but not here? Plus, where you do list it, why is the record company name disguised? If you think it's offensive, many other offensive songs and offensive titles have appeared over the years. You have a duty to accurately report sales etc and not to allow personal intervention to distort the factual reporting and basic function of your charts. The song is no more stupid than someone singing about a sausage roll. There has been a conspiracy to hamper the progress of this track, by yourselves and the BBC who refused to play even the special clean version on The Chart Show. Truth and accuracy have been compromised.
Marta Haskell
It's gone becuase it was a song that no one liked and listened to like once. Plus it's not funny putting that rubbish in the middle of a top 40 chart that kid's read. It's pathetic.
Carl Mefkintallica Foxall
Watch this week's number one completely disappear from the top 100 next week LOL
K
Kevan
It's shocking to see my favourite Xmas song reach #1 finallyš, especially by beating my most-disliked AIWFCIYš
Cameron
Last Christmas now sets a new record of the longest time a song has taken to reach #1 after it was released, it has taken 36 years after being released in 1984. The previous record was Is This The Way To Amarillo? which which was released in 1971 and reached #1 34 years later in 2005.
KF
Karl Frost
Will next week be the first ever week where for 2 consecutive weeks the no. 1 has dropped out of the top 40 altogether? Shocked but happy that Last Xmas is number one, especially as almost the entire week was after xmas aswell.
āļø
WAIT WHAT??? I didnāt expect any Christmas songs, never mind Last Christmas finally getting to Number 1.
I have no idea what I want for Number 1 next week. The three contenders I see happening (Sweet Melody, Whoopty and Afterglow) all get a 2/10 or lower for me.
āļø
Also, why is Blinding Lights Number 1 on Spotify and Number 2 on Apple Music? š¤Ø
Foxes
Because it's the end of the year haha. If it wasn't for ACR it'd be #1 next week. š ACR.
āļø
I think it might get a reset to be honest, a lot of songs get one at this time.
JR
John Rollins
No Cliff Richard!!!???
Martin Austin
Such a bad time of the year, next week will see all of the xmas songs drop off the chart and those singles that have poor sales move up! Not really fare Little Mix will get a hit from a song that already reached its peak!
Miley Stan
so many hits prematurely being on ACR because of christmas songs :(
Jane Talbot-Mala
I'm thrilled Wham Last Christmas has made it to number 1.
Joshua Sombra
Yay, 'Levitating' is going back up the charts, hopefully it will go back on the Top 40 next week.
Joshua Sombra
Do you guys think that 'Positions' will go back to the top 40 next week?
Joshua Sombra
I guarantee that 'Positions' will go back up the charts next week.
JoeNak
Sweet Melody for #1 next week?

So we had the Boris Johnson single at number 5 last week and dropping out The Top 100 this week.
Maybe someone should release a single called "I hate people who don't do as they are f**king Told.
It's no all his fault, we have too many people who won't do as there told.

Am I correct in thinking that LadBaby's 1 to 78 drop this week is the biggest EVER fall from Number One and thus sets a brand new record? Has a record EVER gone from Number One to completely out of the Top 100 ?
Foxes
I don't think so, but Last Christmas will almost certainly do that next week haha!
Cameron
Biggest drop from number one was Three Lions in 2018, it went from 1 to 97 lol
Mark Booker
Yes ur right it becomes the first no1 in history to spend 1 wk in the top 75
Blank
Chris Rea and Elton must be frustrated to only equal their previous bests.
Richard Goodyer
I beyond happy for Wham. I'm old enough to remember "Last Christmas", when it came out in 1984. I always thought, although raising money for famine relief is good, it also meant and deprived Wham of making the top slot, until NOW. Ladbaby is number 78 this week, having been the Christmas chart topper.
š§” oliviasnoodles š
also, massive congratulations to wham! they really deserved this. two overdue number ones. š
š§” oliviasnoodles š
can polo g please get a chart hit in 2021? he is my favourite new artist of last year and he needs a hit. 21 and wishing for a hero are tunes. also i hope his first chart hit is by himself or with another rapper.
Piran
I'm surprised that 'The Business' is as low as #86 here... it's #2 in Ireland! :O
Ian Robert Herechuk
I think it will start rising the chart from next week
Ian Robert Herechuk
Let's also hope that, Real Groove (Studio 2054 remix) by Kylie and Dua Lipa becomes the hit it deserves
R
Riley
I think itās definitely one to watch! Creeping up in sales and streams and with some radio momentum could potentially do a fake friends and go top 20 considering how catchy it is
DamiƔn
Yesss, i really hope it Ian!!! Kylie deserves a top 40 at least with this wonderful album!!!
Piran
I hope you're right! I think is has Top 40 potential at least, especially when all the Christmas songs drop out next week. :)
Piran
I still haven't heard that yet, but I have no doubt that it'll be amazing! :D
Piran
I'm hoping that it can go at least Top 40 next week with all the Christmas songs dropping out. :)
Mustafa StevanoviÄ
Christmass songs are boring...
Piran
2020 mightāve been a terrible year in general, but at least it gave us two surprise releases from Taylor & an incredible sophomore album from Dua! :D
Iāll also loved that āBlinding Lightsā & āHead & Heartā were among the yearās biggest hits (both are 10/10 for me).
P
PN
2020 was so good for music. I gave out "awards", but I'm saving the announcement until the top 100 songs of 2020 go up.
I agree with Blinding Lights and Head & Heart - such good tunes!
Piran
I've got a few posts planned for the Chart Of 2020 too! Overall though, it was definitely an above average year for music (even though the past few months in general life have been an absolute disaster). :/
P
PN
The music definitely kept me going over the trauma from the year gone. Just something to cherish from a god-awful year and carry forward into 2021
Piran
Yeah, at least we'll always have the hits from 2020, but I just hope they'll still get their chance to shine at clubs, festivals, holidays, etc. in the future. :)

Lots of re-entries next week...
Piran
At least Alexa didn't unfairly win this year! :P
P
PN
I mean, I get that Mariah should have been number 1 last year, but I'm certaintly not complaining about another number 1 for Ellie!
Piran
I love Ellie too, but 'River' shouldn't have been #1 in the charts last year. :/
P
PN
It shouldn't have, true (how a song that was the true definition of a yo-yo song beat Mariah to number 1 is beyond me). Ellie deserved it (a lot), but Mariah deserved it A LOT more.
But least justice was served last year, and Ellie added another number 1 to her tally in the process :)
Peter Barker
2 protest songs notably absent despite being Amazon best selling single all week, 'Comin over here' is missing as is the Boris song, confirming the chart is being censored.
Rector
may I direct you to the sales chart
S

Comin Over Here is at 65 on this one and Boris song was at number 5 last week if you bother to look at the chart for more than five seconds.....
Peter Barker
noted.
Marta Haskell
That 'Boris' song is gone, forever. Thank God, it was pathetic putting that in a chart that kid's look at.
Cameron
the two Eminem songs dropped out, might return next week though lol

Black magic won't it did poorly in streaming

It's probably better for artists to not release albums in December because of all the Christmas songs in the chart lol

Piran
'Get Out My Head' is still gaining really fast in performance, so it could see it reaching the Top 5 next week & maybe even peaking inside the Top 3!
I'm not sure about it going all the way to #1, but hey, I can only hope it does, haha. :)
Mark Booker
Hi piran
Another chart record broke today as Wham get to no.1.
Ladbaby Dont stop me eatin becomes the first No.1 in chart history to spend a single week in the charts.
C
Chig
Incorrect. It's #78.
Mark Booker
I know so that means its the first no 1 ever to spend 1 week in the top 75 only no 78 doesnt count as a week i know wat im talking about
Piran
Hey Mark! :)
That chart record for Wham is correct, but LadBaby actually stayed in for a second week (although he did crash all the way to #78).
Rector
No more "Maybe next year"
GS
YES!!
GS
Does this mean it will break the record for the biggest fall from #1 next week
Cameron
Maybe lol
P
PN
1-97 is the record so far (3 Lions in 2018). It probably will, but you never know. I honestly thought LadBaby would do it this week to be honest, but he didn't, so you never know
Mrsliver
What christmas means to me is here it took its time
Cameron
OCC, just because two classics that were on ACR have now reached #1 doesn't mean ACR should stay
Rector
OMG THANK YOU UK FOR FINALLY GIVING WHAM THE #1 SINGLE
Foxes
Now to see Wham! go 1-OUT next week š¤£
Blank
Follows Ladbaby on that front then.
P
PN
Well, at least LadBaby didn't actually leave the chart. To be honest, 78 is over where I thought they would be
Blank
Like Music Week, I only consider the top 75 to be the chart. So #78 is dropping out.
Marta Haskell
Just like Mariah Carey will go 2-OUT this week.
Piran
'Fairytale Of New York' for #1 next Christmas! ;)
Mrsliver
Honestly it would be shocking to see it reach 2 again let alone the top
Cameron
Hope so
S
spinny
I'd love to see it happen but I don't think it ever will sadly unless AIWFCIY and Last Christmas end up on ACR bad and Fairytale of New York somehow manages to use that to its benefit. It's always the third in line so that'd be the most likely scenario it'd happen in
Piran
'Love Story' too! ;)
Piran
Yeah, it's not likely, but hey, both Mariah & Wham both going to #1 this Christmas is enough for me, haha. :)
P
PN
Life is complete if they did it :)
Piran
The Christmas trilogy would be complete then! ;)
S
spinny
now only Fairytale of New York is left out of the 'number two peak Christmas classic' trilogy. When we gonna get that there lol
Piran
The biggest song never to reach #1 is now 'Moves Like Jagger' by Maroon 5 ft Christina Aguilera. :)
Cameron
That's never going to be #1 though lol
Piran
No, but it is in the Top 40 best-selling songs of all-time apparently! :O
Cameron
Yeah it was #2 for seven consecutive weeks and seven different songs kept it off #1 lol
Blank
Cool stat. Got to be a record for most records keeping a #2 off the top. There was an 8-week run but that was all behind Bryan Adams!
Cameron
I think the record is seven weeks for a #2 which has happened three times. There was I Swear by All-4-One in 1993 which spent seven consecutive weeks at #2 behind Love Is All Around by Wet Wet Wet. Then Moves Like Jagger spent seven consecutive weeks at #2 in 2011. Then most recently in 2018, These Days by Rudimental spent seven consecutive weeks at #2 behind God's Plan by Drake but it reached #1 after the seven weeks.

Right Said Freds 'I'm Too ' was kept from the #1 for 6 wks by Bryan Adams, then 3 years later 'I Swear' by All 4 One spent 7 weeks at #2 thanks to Wet Wet Wet. But no other #2 song has been kept off the top by so many different #1s as ' Moves Like Jagger' which is a cruel irony as some of those one-week #1s were really inferior, forgettable songs. Judge for yourselves....
Example - Stay Awake
Pixie Lott - All About Tonight
One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful
Dappy - No Regrets
Sak Noel - Loca People
Rihanna & Calvin Harris - We Found Love (2 wks)
Six different songs kept it from the UK #1, not 7. ;o)

I got some of it wrong. As you say, All For One at 7 weeks is the longest consecutive run. Frank Chackesfield (Limelight) had 8 weeks at #2 in 4 different runs - all behind Frankie Laine I Believe (which itself had different runs, both hits dropped from their peak at the same time!). As for the #1s keeping Jagger off, of the 5 I remember they are all pretty decent. Don't remember the Dappy one!

Possibly everything she wants by wham? The original release in 1984 was a double a side

Surely that accolade now falls to āEverything She Wantsā on its own now?

OCC are classing it as 'Moves Like Jagger', according to their singles chart article;
"Previously, Last Christmas was the UKās best-selling single to never reach Number 1, accumulating 1.9 million pure sales to date across its lifetime. That title is now handed over to Maroon 5ās Moves Like Jagger ft. Christina Aguilera (1.55m pure sales), a Number 2 hit in 2011."

I'd have thought so too, but OCC are saying it's 'Moves Like Jagger', according to their latest singles chart article;

Believe me David, the Dappy #1 is (to quote Steps) better best forgotten. Whoever downloaded THAT needs imprisoning somewhere north of Russia. ;o)

I literally have forgotten about it! :-)
Or maybe didn't know about it in the first place. I may have to download it one day as part of the hits collectoin.

Doubt it. I pointed out some errors 4 years ago and none have been corrected. I don't even bother mentioning them to OCC now, just make a note for myself so I have a more accurate record than this website, or the print chart versions.
Piran
I'd have said it was 'Moves Like Jagger', since that was a released as a separate single, unlike 'Everything She Wants' (which was only released in 1984 as a double A-side alongside 'Last Christmas').
Piran
That's definitely the record for the most songs that have blocked the same single from going to #1! :O

Happy New Year Piran and everyone! So happy to see Last Christmas at No. 1. You already know I'm having a nice day with JB releasing Anyone (amazing) š„ and he's Top 5 this week in the š¬š§.
Piran
I haven't heard 'Anyone' yet, but yeah, I'm absolutely buzzing about 'Last Christmas' going to #1 in the same way that I was for 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' three weeks ago! :D

ANOTHER CHRISTMAS CLASSIC AT #1!!!!!! š

Jack Brooks
I quite liked the fact that it was the biggest selling song never to reach #1 because there was an interesting story behind it holding that record.
Piran
Yeah, there's some uncertainty as to whether 'Everything She Wants' should hold that title now, but OCC are saying it's 'Moves Like Jagger' & I would agree with them there. :)

I really didnāt expect āLast Christmasā to go to #1 today, but man, Iām so happy that Wham finally made it after 36 years! :D

Jack Brooks
With a 36 year gap I believe they have now broken the record for longest duration between original release of a song and reaching #1, so they have a new record to their name!
Piran
That's right! :D
