Can we all stop saying that streaming on the charts should be abolished?

Guys, streaming is not going away. It's replacing the need to buy singles physically, and the reason they're added is because sales are losing out, so streaming a good way to see what songs are more popular. No matter what you guys think, streaming is not going away and the OCC is not getting rid of it. Cry and be angry all you want, but streaming is here to stay and it's not getting abolished from the charts any time soon, so just give it up.

If you want to see what the chart looks like WITHOUT streams, check this out: http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singles-sales-chart/

get a life THE charts should be based on physical singles sales not streaming as the charts are rigged with Justin Bieber etc and none of the old school groups and singers can get on the charts and X factor chart entries should not be allowed to have the Christmas single at no 1 as this is wrong and selfish and nobody wants a 17 year old at No1! and get released after Christmas and etc should be at no1! a festive single at no1! not SAD FACTOR AGAIN! and Simeon you dont know anything about music as all you can talk about is streaming! so if people watched SLADE's merry christmas everybody A MILLION TIMES THEN that would rechart which is totally unacceptable to have the factor at no 1 again or they should have a under 25 charts and over 25 charts then add them together and i reckon Madonna Kylie etc should reach no 1 as a former DJ i know music better then you!

Thank you for stating your views. And also extra special thank you on telling me I know nothing about music and saying I have no life. Clearly the person with no life is the one who clearly didn't even read what I said about how sales are losing out and who wrote me an essay to back up your argument--with a LOT of improper grammar, and not even capitalizing the letter "I" or the first words in your sentences.

Again, if you'd like to see what the chart looks like EXCLUDING streams and ONLY including sales, check this chart out: http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singles-sales-chart/

Good day, Mr. Ansell.

What I find most fascinating about this week's chart is the almost non-existent presence of American artists. In fact, the highest ranking American is Beyonce as a featuring artist on Naughty Boy's record at #16. The upper chart is dominated by British and Canadian acts while the top 40 is mostly British.

This trend can also be seen in other national charts around the world. Even the Billboard Hot 100 has a dearth of Americans inside the top 10. Perhaps it's the calm before the next big American storm...

Some great comments here especially from Dave Knight and Dino. Keep up the pressure so that we can hopefully abolish streaming being added to the singles charts which is totally false and is costing many other artists and groups having hits especially the older artists who may sell records at a good rate but won't necessary be streamed that much. Bring back the 7 inch, 12 inch and cd single now that the lp has made a massive comeback so that people have a choice of how they buy music. Artists and groups should also be encouraging this. Adele is one artist who would rather have people buy her music in a physical format and her first week album sales said just that. She sold 808,000 copies in her first week yet 548,000 of those sales were in physical format so does that not prove a point? People still wish to own something for their money. Something that they can appreciate and perhaps collect. What can we do to revive the vinyl and cd single? Comments on this would be great. Perhaps a major campaign would be a start. Another worthwhile comment is if a track has not been released as an official single it must NOT chart. The OCC must sort these charts out as many chart watchers old and new are getting very frustrated week in and week out. The best news that we could have for the new year is that the OCC tells us that streaming will no longer be added to chart sales and that we willbe able to purchase singles once again in a physical format. No excuses. And finally the Christmas chart. We need to start having a decent Christmas song at number one or even a novelty record just like we used to when the charts were real and fun. Your comments would be much appreciated as all of this makes total sense.

I agree with you Russell, but as i've posted on here before, there is a physical sales chart, it's just not given priority status so there's nothing to be changed except giving the physical sales chart priority. Streaming has it's own chart and should not added to the main chart

Justin Bieber has 15 singles in the top 100. Surely some kind of rules or control needs to be altered to the chart. I've noticed since downloading has almost completely took over physical sales of singles, lots of the older artists don't even have hit singles anymore. For example cd singles are almost as extinct as the dinosaurs. But this isn't fair to me, and the top 100 singles charts are so bland its ridiculous. I just hope downloading doesn't have the same affect on the album charts, or we wouldn't see any artists over the age of 25 have hit albums anymore either. It simply wouldn't be worth them being musicians. Something needs to spark a comeback of the physical single, just like vinyl is making a comeback now. Bring back the 7inch vinyl single at a reasonable price I say. Then you'd see artists like Rod Stewart, Status Quo, Pet Shop Boys, even Madonna, back in the top 40, and bring back the diversity we once had.

I don't bother with this joke version of the charts. Streams should not be included, the singles chart should be SALES only!!!

There is a sales only chart. It just isn't given priority i'm sorry to say

OK. This is the official Bieber chart. And there's not a single new song in the top 40. The whole thing doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

For one more time official chart is full of album tracks and that's no fair .Will Young and the Corrs this week are charted on sales chart but not on the 'official (???) chart. The same happened a week ago with Enya .I hope next week Kylie to break at least in the top 50. ...And by the way i do believe that people near 45 are buying singles but theOFFICIALchart seems to ignore these sales in order to promote new artists with no future .I do believe that seasons changed and downloads and streaming are combined to fill the chart .It will be more fair the Official chart to exclude album tracks and streaming. Finally this chart should be called official tracks chart not singles chart.

These official charts are a farce, 14 JBs, that's not fixed at all now is it?

The fact is people aren't buying the above songs in enough quantities to register in the top 100. Sure, people over 45 may still be buying music, but the sales of that demographic are completely dwarfed by younger buyers.

avatar

Painmix King

You may have a point there Sachin, but surely a good proportion of young people like rock music and as there is hardly any proper bands in the Top 100, something is wrong

For anyone who is fed up of Bieber including me, avoid the charts, put Radio 2 on, they know what REAL music they play.
