I would like Blinding Lights by The Weeknd to shoot straight up to #1 on Friday.

Please no Ladbaby at #1 I am begging you. Also they are taking the mick out of The Beatles Abbey Road Album Cover!

They're not taking the mick out of the Beatles... they recorded the song at Abbey Road, the photo is a tribute 🙄

I'll rather "Dance monkey" than "love sausage rolls", well hopefully Stormzy "Owns it" by Friday.

While LadBaby might be leading this update, OCC did mention that the margins between him & Stormzy did close considerably between yesterday & today.

Again, going to be another tough one to call, but I hope the latter can somehow overtake it!

Yeah the initial sales would have given lad baby a huge boost but streaming is going to go way against him with only his YouTube views assisting. I think wham and Mariah will be up there too by Friday.
Glad to see you still commenting Piran, have you started your job yet or do you start after xmas?

Thanks Rob! :)

I started my job today actually, but my hours are 8am-4pm, so I'll still be around some evenings, even some of my main posts are going to be a lot shorter than you're used to seeing from me.

He's gone ahead and released a "Swing Version" of I Love Sausage Rolls. It get it's for charity, but at this point it feels like pure greed. It's not about getting Christmas #1, it's about helping food banks - but now it seems a stretch.

EDIT: He also now occupies both #1 and #2 on iTunes respectively, with the new Swing Version selling 30% of what the original is selling. Dance Monkey is at #4 selling 19% of what the original is selling.

I think he's going to get it again. :/

The new 'swing' version is doing half as well as the original on iTunes - if that's any indication, it's going to sell well over what it did last year.
At this point though, releasing a new version, it's definitely just to secure the #1 spot more than to further gain money for charity - I get that it's for a good cause, but we can't keep using this argument to excuse this guy who's releasing the same song for a second year in a row and has no plans to stop going into the new decade - and if this year has been any indication, it's that the general public seems to enjoy buying the same thing over and over.

Some guy we've never heard of singing a parody of We Built This City and actually getting the Christmas number one when the competition involved Ariana Grande of all people was funny

It really isn't anymore, it was funny for one year and that's it. He definitely doesn't deserve it two years in a row, an achievements only the Beatles and the Spice Girls have right now, two massive symbols of British music.

That's exactly the way I feel too - the whole idea of it last year was that it's a random YouTuber covering a song and making it about sausage rolls, and the money from that goes to charity.

Even though he's doing the last part again this year, I can't help but feel it's coming from a place of greed for this achievement, further fueled by the fact he released a second version - knowing fully that that's how you game the charts. I'm fully up for someone to reach the achievement of The Beatles and The Spice Girls, but if this guy gets it, it's not gonna be the same at all - the former two achieved it with actual music people enjoyed, Ladbaby on the other hand, it's just because of charity. Supposedly. I don't actually think many people are listening to the song and enjoying it.

Stormzy too, has now shouted out Ladbaby, which I now take as a defeat. Whether we like it or not, Ladbaby will be #1 on Friday. No doubt we'll be in the same place next year!

Honestly, promoting your own single when you're competing against a charity single for a big position like Christmas #1 would have been a bad idea regardless, so Stormzy was in a position where he couldn't do much besides discounting the iTunes download to 59p and doing minimal promo of his album.

And if we're here this year. we certainly will be next year as well, and as I said, I doubt LadBaby would stop at three consecutive years if he actually achieved that. He's setting a scary precedent of monopolizing the #1 spot for the future, taking any excitement out of this race. Which for chart fans.

I'd be surprised if he monopolises the top forever. Ppl will want something original eventually so I wouldn't worry too much

BJ

It's not him I'm necessarily worried about, it's now the vast amount of singles that are going to monopolise (yes, it's a charity, but still) off of this cheap comedy to gain a number one single.

Hey Ben! :)

I do feel like it's partly about the Christmas #1 for him too! For as much as I respect he's doing this all for charity, neither 'We Built This City' nor 'I Love Sausage Rolls' would be doing anywhere near as well as they are now if they weren't released at Christmas, since novelty songs only tend to get traction around now.

'Own It' could still be #1 in the New Year though, since festive classics will be heavily weakened by ACR!
