Will Young has announced details of his new album and unveiled its lead single, titled Daniel.

Will's brand-new track, a take on Bat For Lashes' 2009 single, is out now, following its first play on BBC Radio 2 that morning, on Zoe Ball's Breakfast Show. Watch the video below:

Daniel is Will's first single from his new album Crying On The Bathroom Floor, a record that sees Will reimagine songs by female pop artists he admires, including Robyn, Solange and Lykke Li.

"After 18 years of recording and performing a lot of original material, I loved the idea of creating an album that celebrates some of the modern female artists I so admire in pop," he said. "In today’s times it’s so much easier and accepted to occupy other genders, ideas and explore new avenues.

"I wanted to understand what it might be like to sing their lyrics; a song about a boy called Daniel; crying on the bathroom floor, feeling like Elizabeth Taylor. This is not a covers album as such, well certainly not in the standard way. I wanted to bring songs from female artists who I admire into a new arena. I wanted to work with Richard X again and create a true pop record.”

Crying On The Bathroom Floor is released on August 6 via Cooking Vinyl Records. See the track listing below:

The album is Will's first new music since his 2019 album Lexicon, which debuted at Number 2 on the Official Albums Chart.

Speaking to OfficialCharts.com at the time, Will revealed how a one-off live show and freeing himself of a management team rebuilt his confidence in his music after a period of creative dormancy.

"I just started getting confidence again," he said. "I stopped having a management team and I just started to work out how to do it myself. The whole thing was a real pleasure." Read the full interview here.
