Sam Fender tops Official Trending Chart with new single People Watching
Today, Sam Fender tops the Official Trending Chart with his brand new single People Watching.
The first taste of Sam's third studio album of the same name, People Watching re-establishes Geordie hero Sam as one of the most accomplished British lyricists of his generation.
Co-produced by Adam Granduciel of indie-rock band The War On Drugs, Sam has said the song (which uses the concept of people watching to distract the song's narrator from a recent loss in his life, and a reminder that the world may be ending for you, but for everyone else it keeps on turning) was inspired by the death of a close family friend, someone who was "like a surrogate mother" to him.
People Watching has already been received rapturously by both critics and fans; it's set to debut straight inside the UK Top 10 this Friday, it would be Sam's third UK Top 10 single, and his highest ever debut on the Official Singles Chart as a solo act.
Bringing up the rear is Canadian multi-hyphenate Tate McRae with her brand-new, sensual banger 2 hands, inspired by her relationship with fellow pop star THE KID LAROI, with production from Ryan Tedder and LOSTBOY and an eye-popping music video from duo Bradley & Pablo (Charli xcx, ROSALIA). It's the second single taken from Tate's forthcoming third LP So Close to What.
Another new entry on this week's Official Trending Chart comes from BTS idol JIN, who is looking to secure his first-ever UK Top 40 solo single this week with RUNNING WILD.
Elsewhere on the Official Trending Chart this week, there's big rises from Linkin Park, who could reach a brand new peak this week with Heavy Is The Crown and one of the most exciting artists on the UK music scene right now, Lola Young, whose hit Messy is looking to reach a brand new peak inside the Official Singles Chart Top 100.
