The Killers may have only just released their sixth studio album Imploding the Mirage, but the band have already revealed plans for their next album, which they're hoping to release in Summer 2021.

In the latest NME Big Read cover story, frontman Brandon Flowers spoke about how the creative process of their new album Imploding the Mirage left them with enough songs to release another in less than a year: “You know when someone makes a record and they say that they have 50 songs and they’re going to release another record? Well, we really are! We’re going to release another one in about 10 months."

Due to the postponement of their stadium tour until next year, Brandon and the band had time on their hands to go straight back to songwriting, and not worry so much about "the grind". “I’m not writing a quarantine album or anything like that,” he told NME, “You kind of just start hitting your stride when you’re finishing a record. You’re writing lyrics, you’re mixing everything, you’re in it – then you go on tour.

"It’s interesting to not be going on tour and having any of that stuff taking up my brain. I just went right back to the piano."

The band have already returned to the studio to record the songs for the album and Brandon admitted it "might be better than this one". The songs expected to appear on the band's next collection have "no thread" with the music on Imploding the Mirage.

The Killers manager Robert Reynolds has high hopes for the unreleased music, telling Music Week: “I can’t drop any names but let me just say that one of the top three Killers songs ever written is on the next album. It’s the best of early Killers while staying fresh and reflecting their development as a band. I can’t wait for the world to hear it.”
