Sabrina Carpenter scores record-breaking Official Chart Double with Short n' Sweet and Taste

She dream came true’d it! Today, Sabrina Carpenter scores her first Official Chart Double; earning both her first UK Number 1 album with Short n’ Sweet and third Number 1 single with Taste.  

In doing so, Sabrina becomes the first female artist (and only third overall) to score both the UK’s Number 1 album and single simultaneously, while also holding the Top 3 positions on the Official Singles Chart. The only other artists to manage this were Ed Sheeran (26 at the time) and Harry Styles (28 at the time), although at 25 years old, Sabrina pips them by becoming the youngest to achieve this special kind of Official Chart domination. Justin Bieber was the first artist to hold the Top 3 singles simultaneously back in 2016 (aged 21), but didn’t hold the Number 1 album. 

On the Official Albums Chart, Short n’ Sweet debuts at Number 1 with an astounding 89,000 chart units in total, the second-biggest first week sales for any album this year, following Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department, which bowed with 270,000 chart units, the biggest opening week in 7 years. 

Short n’ Sweet is Sabrina’s sixth album overall, but her first to enter the upper echelons of the Official Albums Chart. Her previous LP, 2022’s emails I can’t send, peaked at Number 41.  

Over on the Singles Chart, Taste debuts at Number 1, becoming Sabrina’s third chart-topping single this year, all of which she’s accumulated in just 120 days. It joins her previous Number 1s Please Please Please (2) and Espresso (3) giving her complete Top 3 domination today.

The last female artist to gain three Number 1s in less than six months was Ariana Grande, who did so in 99 days between 2018 and 2019 with thank u, next, 7 rings and break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored. Ed Sheeran was the last act to claim three Number 1 singles in a calendar year in 2021, while the last female artist to do so was Jess Glynne in 2015. 

With Espresso, Please Please Please and Taste, Sabrina has now spent a cumulative 13 weeks at Number 1 in 2024; she’s the artist with the most weeks at Number 1 in a calendar year since Ed Sheeran spent 19 weeks at the top in 2021 with Bad Habits, Shivers, Merry Christmas and Sausage Rolls For Everyone.

Albums 

Fontaines D.C. celebrate the biggest opening week of their career to date, with fourth studio album Romance debuting at Number 2. 

The Dublin-formed five-piece – Grian Chatten, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan III, Tom Coll and Carlos O’Connell – more than double the first week total of their previous record Skinty Fia, which topped the Official Albums Chart in 2022. It becomes the group’s fourth Top 40 album overall, joining 2019’s Dogrel (9), 2020 release A Hero’s Death (2) and 2022’s Skinty Fia (1). 

Romance also tops the Official Vinyl Albums Chart, the best-selling LP on wax this week, and the Official Record Store Chart, the biggest album of the past seven days in UK independent record shops.  

Britpop is officially back as Manchester legends Oasis finally reunite after 15 years – and the country’s gone mad fer it! With the announcement of Noel and Liam Gallagher’s 2025 tour, the group see their back catalogue surge.  

While Oasis may not be setting foot in a stadium for a year yet, they’re already underway delivering a hat-trick. For the first time in UK Official Chart history, Oasis place three albums in the Official Albums Chart Top 5 simultaneously, earning them a personal best. 

2009 hits compilation Time Flies… (1994-2009) benefits from the biggest boost, vaulting 21 spots with week-on-week uplift of 332% (3).  

The group’s second LP, 1995’s (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?, returns to the Top 5 for the first time in four years, lifting 37 with a 313% week-on-week increase (4). 

As it turns 30, Oasis’s iconic debut Definitely Maybe jumps 44 places, seeing week-on-week uplift of 297% (5). With the release of its multi-format 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, could the album go all the way back to Number 1 next week?

Elsewhere, Louisiana country star Lainey Wilson secures her first-ever UK Top 40 album with fifth studio release Whirlwind (13), as Travis Scott claims a fifth with the long-awaited official release of his 2014 mixtape DAYS BEFORE RODEO (15). 

The release of Louis Tomlinson’s LIVE album on physical formats sees it make its Top 40 debut (33), becoming the One Direction alum’s third solo Top 40 to date. It joins 2020 LP Walls (4) and 2022’s Faith In The Future (1). 

And finally, English alt-pop artist Cassyette nets her first-ever Top 40 album with debut release This World F**king Sucks, a new entry at Number 39 this week. 

Singles 

Elsewhere on the Official Singles Chart today, Sonny Fodera, Jazzy and D.O.D move up to a brand new peak with Somedays jumping up two to Number 14.  

Following news of their long-awaited reunion, three Oasis singles re-enter the UK Top 20 today; Don’t Look Back In Anger (16), Wonderwall (17) and Live Forever (19).  

It’s the first time the band has ever seen three singles in the Top 20 simultaneously, and each track’s week-on-week growth in the UK is extraordinary; Don’t Look Back In Anger experienced a 197% week-on-week uplift in the UK, Wonderwall 145% and Live Forever 309%. 

Finally, Teddy Swims’ emotional The Door also sweeps to a new peak today; up one to Number 22.
