Rush, the biographical film based on James Hunt and Niki Lauda’s rivalry during the 1976 Formula One season, has gone straight in at Number 1 on the UK's Official Video Chart. And not only that, it has also become the fastest selling DVD and Blu-ray title of 2014 so far!
Directed by Ron Howard (Angels & Demons, Frost/Nixon, A Beautiful Mind) and written by Peter Morgan (The Queen, The Last King Of Scotland, The Other Boleyn Girl) Rush stars Chris Hemsworth as Hunt and Daniel Bruhl as Lauda. According to the Official Charts Company’s sales data, nearly 191,000 copies of the title were purchased over the last seven days, beating this year's previous record holder, Riddick (starring Vin Diesel) which clocked up more than 132,000 sales during its first week of relase last month.
The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones is new in at Number 2 on this week’s Official Video Chart. The film, which is based on the first book in Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments series, stars Phil Collins daughter, Lily, as Clary Fray.
The home release of Dexter Fletcher’s film adaptation of The Proclaimers’ musical, Sunshine On Leith, debuts at Number 3 today, while last week’s chart topper, White House Down, falls three places to Number 4. The Top 5 is completed by Riddick (5).
The only other new entry on this week’s Official Video Chart is The Call (starring Halle Berry and Abigail Breslin), which is new in at Number 28.
