Professor Green: “New single is about my darkest moments”

Professor Green opens up about his new single Lullaby, revealing the song recalls some of the “darkest moments” in his life.

London rapper Professor Green has revealed that his new single Lullaby is about some of the “darkest moments” in his life.

The star’s latest track talks about his father’s suicide and growing up with his grandfather , who later died of a heart attack.

“This song is very emotional and is about some of the darkest moments in my life,” he told Official Charts. “It’s all about what I went through last year with my dad.

“I don’t think men talk about depression enough or how they feel. I don’t like extreme machoism – it’s offensive and old-fashioned. I’m all for men being men, but it actually takes real strength to admit you have a weakness.

“When you refuse to acknowledge something is wrong, that’s when things manifest and it gets dangerous.”

However, the star – real name Stephen Manderson – insists he is in a “very happy place” at the moment, adding: “I’ve been through a lot in the last year, but through talking to the right people about it, I’m feeling the best I’ve felt in a long time.”

Professor Green releases Lullaby on September 14. His third album, Growing Up In Public, follows on September 22. Watch the Lullaby video below:
