New Releases: Billie Eilish, ZAYN, Girls Aloud and more

This week's ultimate single, album and DVD releases listing, only on Official Charts

New Releases May 17 2024

Welcome to your New Music Friday round-up, here to serve you the biggest music and home entertainment releases of the week.

Let's dive straight into albums, shall we?

Billie Eilish is back with her third studio LP HIT ME HARD AND SOFT. While LUNCH serves as the record's focus track, Billie opted not to release a single ahead of the album this time around. She explained to Rolling Stone: "I really don’t like when things are out of context. This album is like a family; I don’t want one little kid to be in the middle of the room alone."

Can HIT ME HARD AND SOFT join 2019's WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? and 2021's Happier Than Ever as Billie's third UK chart-topper next week?

ZAYN also returns with his first full-length collection in three years, ROOM UNDER THE STAIRS. To celebrate the release, which includes the singles What I Am and Alienated, ZAYN will play a special one-off show at London's O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire on May 17.

Two decades in the making, Shaznay Lewis serves up her second solo studio record Pages. The follow-up to 2004 debut Open, Pages sees founding All Saints member Shaznay collaborate with the likes of Self Esteem (Pick You Up), Shola Ama and General Levy (Good Mourning).

Elsewhere, Childish Gambino releases his 2020 record 3.15.20 under the new title Atavista. Including collaborations with the likes of Ariana Grande (Time), Summer Walker (Sweet Thang) and Young Nudy (Little Foot Big Foot), the album originally peaked at Number 20 in the UK.

This week sees the release of some deluxe reissues, too. Bleachers update their eponymous Top 5 LP Bleachers with eight brand-new songs, and Melanie Martinez's 2015 debut Cry Baby now includes rare tracks previously exclusive to vinyl.

Now, let's talk singles.

As they kick off The Girls Aloud Show tour, Girls Aloud unleash a brand-new, 27-song megamix of their biggest hits. The Whole Damn Show Megamix (yep, that's a Crocodile Tears reference) encompasses everything from Sound Of The Underground to Something New, plus some fan favourite deep cuts (oh hey Memory Of You, On The Metro, Girl Overboard and Graffiti My Soul).

The girls also continue their retrospective chronological EP releases; this time with 2008 Top 10 Can't Speak French.

Bebe Rexha will be hoping to score a fifth UK Top 10 with summer-ready dance banger Chase It (Mmm Da Da Da), as London Grammar deliver Kind Of Man, the latest track lifted from their upcoming fourth LP The Greatest Love.

Elsewhere, as he announces his second album God Said No, Indiana-born singer-songwriter Omar Apollo unveils Dispose Of Me, Troye Sivan teams up with Mura Masa on a remix of Honey and Galantis recruit Rosa Linn for new cut One Cry.

No mention (again) of Travis. You seem better at finding Aussie/NZ new releases than you do Scottish ones.
