Military Wives go head to head with Bruce Springsteen
The Military Wives are taking on Bruce Springsteen in a bid to top this weekend’s Official Albums Chart.
Military Wives, are breathing down The Boss’s neck, after three day’s sales have been counted, and there's still four more days to go - including the crucial Mother's Day shopping weekend when the Wives‘ fans are expected to come out in large numbers.
The Wives debut album, In My Dreams, was released on Monday, just over two months after they made UK chart history. In December, their single Wherever You Are not only became the UK’s Official Christmas Number 1, it also became the first classical recording ever to top the Official Singles Chart, and the 60th Christmas Number 1. If that wasn’t enough, the Official Charts Company last month were also able to confirm that Wherever You Are was the fastest-selling charity single since Elton John’s Candle In The Wind.
Their album is trailing Bruce Springsteen’s acclaimed new album Wrecking Ball, which is currently in pole position, with both comfortably leading the rest of the field.
The Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot says, “The Military Wives Christmas campaign made for one of the most exciting festive chart races of all time – and this week’s Official Albums Chart race looks set to be almost as gripping. When the choir first came together last summer, I bet none of them believed they would be chomping at The Boss’s heels in the charts within the year. If it were a movie script, you wouldn’t believe it.”
