Meghan Trainor storms ahead in singles race
The 20-year-old American singer’s infectious “body-positive” anthem leads the way to Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart at the mid-week stage following its full download release this week. Last week, All About That Bass made chart history after becoming the first act to enter the UK Top 40 on streams alone, debuting at Number 33.
All About That Bass has already racked up a chart sales tally of almost 77,000 in the first three days of the week alone, outselling its nearest competitor, Bang Bang by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, by three to one, and putting the pop newcomer well on the way to breaking 100,000 sales before the week is out.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift continues her reign inside the Top 10 with Shake It Off, which is at Number 4, and Belgian producer The Magician, previously one half of duo Aeroplane, is this week’s highest new entry at Number 5 with Sunlight. The Balearic disco track, which is set to be the DJ Stephen Fasano’s breakthrough hit, features vocals of Years & Years singer Olly Alexander.
New entries
Further down the chart, Labrinth starts at Number 8 with Let It Be. The song serves as the lead single from the singer and producer’s second album Take Me To The Truth, which is slated for release later this year.
New at Number 10 is Ella Eyre’s Comeback, the follow-up to her Top 20 solo debut, If I Go, earlier this year. Ella previously topped the Official Singles Chart in 2013 as a guest feature on Rudimental’s Waiting All Night, as well as co-writing Sigma and Paloma Faith’s recent Number 1 hit Changing which is still riding high at Number 3 midweek.
London production duo Gorgon City are at 15 with Unmissable, the fourth single from their debut album Sirens, and Jessie Ware is on track for a personal best on the Official Singles Chart, Say You Love Me enters the chart at Number 17 midweek. The song, which was co-written with Ed Sheeran, features on her upcoming album Tough Love.
