It’s time! Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You enters Top 40 for first time this year
The Queen of Christmas is Officially defrosted!
Santa, is that you? Mariah Carey fires the starting gun on the 2024 Christmas season on The Official Chart as All I Want For Christmas Is You re-entering the UK Top 40 today at Number 38.
It’s the first indication of who to keep an eye on as the biggest chart race of the year unfolds next month. Last year’s Official Christmas Number 1, WHAM!’s Last Christmas trails Mariah slightly at Number 43.
As the self-styled Queen of Christmas (of course, dahling!), Mariah is a festive chart staple, but has yet to reach the coveted Official Christmas Number 1 Single spot. In the battle for Christmas Number 1 last year, All I Want For Christmas Is You managed to hit Number 3, behind Last Christmas at Number 1 and Sam Ryder's You're Christmas To Me at Number 2.
Christmas Number 1 aside, All I Want For Christmas Is You has actually reached Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart on two separate occasions; for the first time ever in 2020, 26 years after its initial release for two weeks and then for a singular week in 2022.
Today's chart re-entry sets Mariah up as the artist to catch up to as we look forward to the festive chart season officially starting next month. WHAM! will of course be back in play, hoping to secure a second Official Christmas Number 1, while we had the news this week that Band Aid will be releasing a bumper megamix of Do They Know It's Christmas? to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
When will the 2024 Official Christmas Number 1 single be announced?
The 2024 Official Christmas Number 1 will be announced on Friday, December 20. The full Christmas Top 40 will be counted down on BBC Radio 1's The Official Chart with Jack Saunders from 4pm GMT.
The full Top 100 Official Christmas Singles Chart and Official Christmas Albums Chart will be published on OfficialCharts.com from 5.45pm GMT on Friday, December 20.
