David Gilmour aims for third solo Number 1 album with Luck and Strange
Plus expected new entries from Rex Orange County, The The, Fat Dog and more
David Gilmour leads the pack in the race for this week’s Official Number 1 album with Luck and Strange.
The Pink Floyd guitarist, singer and songwriter hopes to earn a third solo chart-topper, and his first in nine years, with fifth studio LP Luck and Strange on track to join On An Island (2006) and Rattle That Lock (2015) in a hat-trick of Number 1 records.
As a member of Pink Floyd, Gilmour boasts a further six UK chart-toppers.

Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet shows its staying power, expecting to secure a second consecutive week at Number 2.
English singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rex Orange County, born Alexander James O’Connor, looks to score a third Top 5 LP with The Alexander Technique (5), having previously seen success with 2019’s Pony (5) and 2022 release WHO CARES? (1).
London-formed new wave group The The return with Ensoulment; their first collection of new material in 25 years (6). It tracks to become the band’s highest-charting record in 31 years, since 1993’s Dusk (2).
South London group Fat Dog, comprising Joe Love, Johnny ‘Doghead’ Hutch, Chris Hughes, Morgan Wallace and Jacqui Wheeler aim to make their Official Albums Chart debut with first full-length collection WOOF. (7).
Balham-born multi-hyphenate Fred again.. sets his sights on a second Top 10 album, with ten days (8) looking to join 2022’s Actual Life 3 (January 1-September 9 2022) (4).
A 40th anniversary Deluxe Edition of Ultravox’s 1984 record Lament could see it return to the Top 20 for the first time in as many years, looking to rebound to Number 11. The seventh LP from the British new wave outfit peaked at Number 8 on its original release.
As they return with a new line-up, Linkin Park’s 2024 hits collection Papercuts jumps 13 midweek (13).
Last week, the rock group revealed new members Emily Armstrong (as co-vocalist) and Colin Brittain (as drummer) as they released their first new material since the death of former lead vocalist Chester Bennington in 2017. The band’s latest track, The Emptiness Machine, is in the running for this week’s Official Number 1 single (2), currently sitting just behind the UK’s current chart-topper, Sabrina Carpenter’s Taste.
Linkin Park’s seminal 2001 debut Hybrid Theory also looks to benefit from the band’s return, up 88 and sitting just outside the midweek Top 40 (45).

Leeds four-piece English Teacher could see debut LP This Could Be Texas return to the Top 40 at Number 24 this week, following its Album of the Year win at last week’s 2024 Mercury Prize. The first record from Lily Fontaine, Lewis Whiting, Douglas Frost and Nicholas Eden peaked at Number 8 on its release in April.
German-British composer and pianist Max Richter hopes to earn a second Top 40 entry with ninth studio LP In a Landscape (32).
Becoming the first David Bowie album to receive a DOLBY ATMOS remix, released across Blu-ray audio disc and digital formats, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars could return to the Top 40 (34).
And, finally, Blackpool five-piece Boston Manor hope to claim a career-best with fifth studio album Sundiver (39).
