WHAM!

Wham! were one of the biggest pop groups of the 1980s; comprising schoolmates George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley. In their original 4-year time-span, Wham! scored four UK Number 1 singles and ignited a deep and passionate fan base both in the UK and US with hits like Wake Me Up Before You Go Go, Club Tropicana and The Edge of Heaven.

For several decades Wham! also laid claim to the best-selling single of all time that had never reached Number 1, their perennial favourite Last Christmas originally got pipped to the top spot by the blockbusting charity single Band Aid upon release in Christmas 1984 but still went on to become one of the UK's much-loved and most successful hits in history. However, in 2021 that claim was eradicated when Wham!'s festive classic did finally get its moment of glory, reaching Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart a whole 36 years after the song's release. In doing so, Last Christmas became Wham!'s fifth UK Number 1 single.

On 22 December 2023, WHAM! made Official Chart history, when, 39 years in the making, Last Christmas finally landed the coveted UK Christmas Number 1, marking the longest journey ever to Christmas Number 1. With 13.3 million streams in seven days, it also set a new record for the most-streamed Christmas Number 1 ever in Christmas week.
