Who is Taylor Swift?

Taylor Swift is an American singer-songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee. One of the most successful recording artists of the 21st century, Taylor became a pop culture monolith by successfully performing several pivots in genre.

Originally coming to fame as a wunderkind in country, Taylor quickly became known for her confessional, diaristic lyricisms and penchant for a punchy melody.

After three country albums (Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now) made her a homegrown superstar, Taylor's fourth album Red began her experiments with pop, and the beginning of a fruitful partnership with Max Martin, who would executive produce the next two albums to turn Taylor into a galaxy-sized pop star; 1989 and Reputation.

2019's Lover was another full embrace of pop, but it was 2020's surprise lockdown album Folklore which saw Taylor emerge herself into lo-fi indie-core (included too on its sister record, Evermore) which helped her re-establish herself as one of the most talented songwriters of her generation. 

An ambitious re-recording of her first seven albums following legal issues, as well as 2022 LP Midnights and the record-setting billion-dollar Eras Tour turned Taylor into the kind of pop culture supernova that we haven't witnessed since Beatlemania. Capping off a remarkable few years in April 2024 with the release of surprise double album The Tortured Poets Department, which defied usual campaign convention to land in the public domain without being preceded by any singles.

On 26 April 2024, The Tortured Poets Department delivered Taylor Swift her 12th Number 1 album, no other artist in Official Chart history had notched up 12 chart toppers in such quick succession; Taylor Swift did it in a record-breaking 11 years and 6 months, from Red in October 2012. This prolific chart-topping form surpasses even The Beatles who managed the feat in 14 years and 1 month. Later in December 2024, Official Charts confirmed The Tortured Poets Department to be the UK's biggest album of 2024, the most-streamed album of the year and the best selling album on vinyl of 2024 too.

On 14 February 2025 Taylor Swift made Official Chart history, overtaking Madonna to become the female artist with the most UK Number 1 albums ever as vinyl release Lover (Live From Paris) topped the Official Albums Chart.

The re-recordings have to be counted separately because they not only contained numerous unreleased tracks they were sent to the number one spot again by people buying the material.

The answer to your point is 12. 12 album tracks from Taylor Swift have charted on the UK Singles Chart. The first one to appear is 'Cruel Summer' on the chart dated 05.09.2019, this was over a decade into her career.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I didn’t count them due to them not being serviced to UK radio. To my knowledge they were sent to US radio (Alt & Hot AC) but not in the UK. Similar to how I wouldn’t class Getaway Car a single (if it had charted in the UK) even tough it was sent to radio in Australia.

I would hazard a guess you’ve never listened to Taylor Swifts catalogue. Her music is hardly boring, she’s released music in many genres and there’s something for everyone from pop, Rock, Indie, folk and country. That’s why she’s the misted awarded musician in modern music at 967 awards and the only musician (plays 5 instruments) to win 4 Grammy album of the year. Music is subjective but don’t be so sanctimonious as to think everyone should like the same music you do or spout an opinion likely based on “shake it off”.

In all fairness, Taylor is an example of how the 3 song rule doesn't work, because anyone who looks at this page is going to look and say "Oh, Taylor fell off", even though she didn't and just because she isn't getting #1s doesn't mean she's failing. The OFFICIAL top 100 songs should be the top 100 songs, not just the ones OCC thinks we should know about. This list should be so much longer because at least half of folklore should've charted, a decent chunk of evermore and also a lot of the taylor's versions.

If anyone here thinks Taylor fell of look at the audio streams charts for the following dates and see how many songs Taylor has in the top 100:

Her songwriting is most definitely underrated especially when greats like McCartney, Carol King and Stevie Nicks think she’s one of the best lyricists ever. She’s even written number one hits for other artists.

That song was on a pop album in between her record breaking, Grammy winning country albums and her record breaking, Grammy winning indie album. Shake it off was a record she made simply to clap back at media trolls.
