The Official Top 40 Best-Selling Vinyl Albums and Singles of 2022

The top sellers on vinyl for 2022 include chart-toppers by Taylor Swift, The 1975 and Wet Leg, as well as the long-awaited return of the Arctic Monkeys.

Vinyl sales in the UK hit a thirty-year high for 2022, the Official Chart Company confirms today.

Sales of vinyl LPs grew for the 15^th consecutive year in 2022 to 5.5 million units, their highest level since 1990, when …But Seriously by Phil Collins was the year’s biggest-selling studio album, as brand new releases took a greater share of the market.

The best-selling album on wax this year was Taylor Swift's hyper-successful tenth album Midnights, which has spent three weeks at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart, tying 2020's lockdown opus folklore as her longest-running Number 1 album here. In 2022, Midnights shifted over 89,000 vinyl copies.

2022 was certainly a big year for vinyl - with eight of the year's Top 10 LPs being released in the last year; also including Harry Styles' Harry's House (2), Arctic Monkeys' The Car (3), Liam Gallagher's C'mon You Know (4), Wet Leg's eponymous debut (6), The 1975 with Being Funny In A Foreign Language (7), Fontaine DC's Skinty Fia (9) and Muse's Will of the People (10).

We have several albums that hit Number 1 in 2022 too, including Paolo Nutini's Last Night In The Bittersweet (16) , Louis Tomlinson's first solo chart-topper Faith In The Future (23), George Ezra's Gold Rush Kid (24), Red Hot Chili Pepper's Unlimited Love (32) and Florence & The Machine's Dance Fever (35).

Other popular 2022 releases to make the wider list include Yard Act's The Overload (17), Foals' Life Is Yours (22), Radiohead spin-off The Smile's A Light For Attracting Attention (26), Black Country New Road's Ants From Up There (31) and and Tears For Fears' long-awaited comeback record The Tipping Point (36).

The best-selling vinyl singles of 2022

Sex Pistols' re-release of their anarchic, generation-defining protest single God Save The Queen is the biggest-selling single on wax of 2022.

Released to coincide with Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee, the 1977 hit, which has a fascinating history on the Official Singles Chart, also benefited from the release of a new Disney+ biopic based on the genesis of the band, Pistol, directed by Danny Boyle.

Taylor Swift's folklore deluxe track The Lakes charts at Number 2 thanks to its special physical release on this year's National Album Day.

Singles released in 2022 to make the list include Harry Styles' perky Late Night Talking (3), Lewis Capaldi's synth-pop comeback single Forget Me (4) and Pink Floyd's first single in nearly 10 years, Hey! Hey! Rise Up! featuring Ukranian artist Andriy Khlyvnyuk (5).
