Football anthems from Baddiel, Skinner & The Lightning Seeds, Atomic Kitten and Neil Diamond storm the Official Chart: First Look ahead of England's EURO 2020 final

The footy could see Atomic Kitten score their first Top 40 single in 16 years, while Neil Diamond could return for the first time since 1992.

As football fans gear up for England’s EURO 2020 final against Italy tonight (July 11), football anthems old and new from Baddiel & Skinner and The Lightning Seeds, Atomic Kitten and Neil Diamond are heading for chart success, as revealed on today's Official Chart: First Look.

1996 classic Three Lions leads the way, going in at Number 3 after the first two days of the sales week. The former Number 1 is the fourth most downloaded song of the week so far and the second-most streamed, clocking up 2.17 million plays so far.

The Official Chart: First Look airs Sundays on BBC Radio 1 between 6pm – 7pm, offering a first glance of the Top 20 ahead of Friday’s Official Singles Chart Top 100. The chart is based on preliminary sales and early streaming reports.

Atomic Kitten’s reworking of their 2001 chart topper Whole Again titled Southgate You’re The One (Football’s Coming Home Again) could give them their first Top 40 single in 16 years. After debuting at Number 86 last week based on three days of sales, the song is at Number 10 today following promotion that included performances on Peter Crouch’s Year-Late Euros: Live and Loose Women.

An artist who has waited even longer for a Top 40 return is Neil Diamond. His legendary sing-a-long staple Sweet Caroline could mark his first Top 40 hit since Morning Has Broken topped out at Number 36 in November 1992. Peaking at Number 8 back in March 1971, Sweet Caroline is currently at Number 13 and may well claim a new best placement if football does well and truly come home.

Apart from seeing ATOMIC KITTEN getting another Top 10 after over a decade away (never saw that coming in a million years!), all my favourite artists are dropping this week!

It’s a shame that ACR is holding back so many classics! :(

It stands for Accelerated Chart Ratio, which means that the value for streaming-equivalent sales is halved for songs that have been on the charts for 10 or more weeks & have also declined in streaming for three consecutive weeks! I'm personally very much against this chart rule. :/

i know, we not keen on ACR! you have a madness halloween track ahead of
football songs, Scary Ed! haunting the nation early, Bad Habits should of been released in 79 days for #1 in time for Halloween about 109 days time from now, Bad Habits is not Now Summer its Now Halloween, its also got a vibe from Smalltown Boy By Bronski Beat,i know it be ACR soon in about 7 weeks time so defo by halloween it be going down the charts unfortunately so it not a halloween #1 hit single, even it so is to me

I've actually been looking at the predictions on BuzzJack's website throughout the week & honestly, you'd think we won last Sunday given how many football anthems are expected to chart! :P

Outside of the football anthems, ‘Stay’ turned out to be better than I expected, although ‘Permission To Dance’ isn’t as good as ‘Butter’ was sadly. :/
