Tony Blackburn

To: 3 January 1982The legendary disc jockey was originally in a band called ‘Tony Blackburn and the Rovers’. Although his singing career failed to take off, he released three studio albums and 14 singles, two of which made the Top 40; So Much Love and It’s Only Love became chart hits in 1968 and 1969 respectively. Presenting the chart show, Tony really did go full circle.

Tommy Vance

To: 1 January 1984Tommy hosted Top of the Pops around the same time as his two-year spot on the Top 40 show. He showed enthusiasm for a variety of music regardless of his association with the heavy metal and rock genres.

Richard Skinner

To: 23 March 1986Before presenting the Official Chart, Richard was one of the original presenters of Newsbeat. During that time, Skinner broke the news of the death of John Lennon to Paul McCartney’s household by phone.

Bruno Brookes

To: 16 April 1995Brookes got his start filling in on BBC Radio 1 shows for the likes of Mike Read and Steve Wright. During his tenure revealing the Number 1 each and every week, audiences reached a whopping 15 million listeners.

Mark Goodier

To: 17 November 2002Mark is the longest reigning presenter of the Official Chart Show, leading the Top 40 countdown for over 8 years. His last show was broadcast as part of the Official Singles Chart’s 50th anniversary celebrations. During his time, the Top 40 shows extended by half an hour, airing from 16:30-19:00.

Wes Butters

To: 30 January 2005The show was now a 3-hour top 40. Renamed the Official Chart Show With Wes, the format dramatically changed and he interviewed hundreds of popstars including Kylie Minogue, Destiny’s Child and George Michael.

JK and Joel

To: 23 September 2007A successful double act for years’ these two originally didn’t get along, with JK even headbutting Joel in the face (breaking his nose)! The duo’s late-blooming friendship superseded their time hosting the chart, and they won two Gold Sony Radio Academy Awards for Breakfast Show of The Year.

Reggie Yates

To: 23 December 2012Reggie is one of The Official Chart’s longest serving faces. Since leaving for pastures new, he has gained praise for his documentary work for BBC Three.
Jameela Jamil

To: 18 January 2015Jameela initially emerged from the fashion industry and got her break presenting T4 on Channel 4 in 2008. While hosting the Official Chart Show, audio streaming was incorporated for the first time, and her time on-air coincided with the Official Singles Chart’s Diamond anniversary. She is the first female solo presenter of the Official Chart.

To: 5 July 2015Clara's stint as the host of the Official Chart was brief but brilliant. Following the global New Music Friday initiative introduced in July 2015, the Official Chart was moved to a Friday afternoon slot, ending its historic presence as a Sunday evening broadcast.
