What was Number 1 on my 14th birthday? Find out what song supposedly 'defines your life'

Does the Number 1 on your 14th birthday define your life?

hmv-music-shop-2015.jpg

According to brand new popular myth, the song that was Number 1 on your 14th birthday is the one that defines your entire life.

Why? We’re not entirely sure. The theory started doing the rounds on Twitter last week thanks to user Swank0cean and it has since gone viral, with over 5,000 replies sparking elated or disappointed reactions.

So, what are you waiting for? To find out who was reigning supreme on the Official Singles Chart on your 14th birthday, simply enter your date of birth in our Official Chart archive. Delighted or extremely troubled by the result? Tell us in the comments below.

You can also find out on our page that lists every Official Number 1 single ever, going back to 1952.

Just for fun, we punched in the 14th birthdays of some music stars to see which song supposedly defines them best.

Lewis Capaldi: Tinie Tempah - Written In The Stars

It seems Lewis' success of late really was inevitable...

Tom Walker: Pussycat Dolls - Stickwitu

We reckon Tom'll be about for a while - plus, he recently became engaged. Confirmed.

Dua Lipa: Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling

We've gotta feeling that there's a lot more great music to come from Dua.

Stormzy, George Ezra: Rihanna ft. Jay Z - Umbrella

Of course a total banger, and Number 1 for over ten weeks - representing two of the UK's biggest artists.

Britney Spears: Robson & Jerome – I Believe/Up On The Roof

We have a feeling Brit won't be familiar with this one.

Calvin Harris: All Saints – Never Ever

We hope for Calvin's sake this emotional singalong doesn't define his life.

Anne-Marie: Tony Christie ft. Peter Kay (Is This The Way To) Amarillo

When the day is dawnin'
On a Texas Sunday mornin'
How I long to be there
With Marie who's waitin' for me there

Spooky.

Kylie: Madness – House Of Fun

We reckon Kylie will be pleased with this one.

Brandon Flowers: Robson & Jerome – Unchained Melody/White Cliffs Of Dover

Two timeless classics right there.

Ed Sheeran: U2 – Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own

Except if you're Ed Sheeran.

Taylor Swift: Will Young – Leave Right Now

Please don't go anywhere, Tay!

Mine's weirdly appropriate. It's been a standing joke my whole life what my lucky number is, as my birthday, my mum's birthday, my dad's birthday and their wedding anniversary all fall on the same day of a month (four different months, but same date).

On my fourteenth birthday, Paul Hardcastle was at number one. Any guess as to which number all our birthdays fall on?

That's a pretty cool synchronism - do you look for the number 19 or does it just jump out at you?

It stalks me. Since I made that post, we've had a new intruder alarm system installed at work, and every internal sensor has a number on it so they can identify them. They one above my head is of course 19...

April 8, 1967: "Happy Together," by the Turtles. Very much a hippie anthem. I fell in love with the hippies that very summer -- the "Summer of Love" -- and I've been in love with them ever since.

well, I had good or bad luck to be born on christmas day, so it;s pretty predictable that no1 on that day will be some boring piece of... mine is mistletoe and wine by cliff richard. the good tracks in that day;s charts start from place 6: inner city - good life, neneh cherry - buffalo stance. in germany for example bobby mc ferrin was no1 that day, that;s better.

John Travolta and Olivia Newton John '' You're The One that I want , '' However I am more concerned about the awful state of the charts . I am a huge music fan , 6Music etc , alternative , indie , rock , techno , punk , country , ..... WTF happened to diversity of music in the charts ...... clueless about the charts but perhaps a 54 year old should be clueless .

The number one on my 14th birthday was Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word by Blue featuring Elton John, which I think is appropriate.

I grew up supporting Chelsea Football Club, but I later did something which few football fans do, and I switched my allegiances in 2006 when I discovered Watford and felt more emotional attachment towards them than I ever felt with Chelsea. What has that got to do with the aforementioned song? Well, Chelsea’s nickname is the Blues, while Elton John is a former chairman and a life vice-president of Watford.

Although I no longer support Chelsea, they arguably define my life, as my dad still supports them, as does my manager in my current job and my manager in my previous job. I currently have the bragging rights, as the most recent meeting between the two sides was won 4-1 by Watford!

About the only thing that isn’t apt is that I often find myself saying sorry to people if I feel that I have done something wrong, so I have tended not to find it hard to say sorry.

Considering this website is supposed to be about music, I am sorry about writing about football.
