Tulisa soars toward debut solo Number 1
Not content with topping FHM’s Sexiest Women In The World poll earlier this week, Tulisa also looks set to top the Official Singles Chart.
According to today’s Official Singles Chart Update, the N-Dubz star and X Factor judge’s debut single, Young, is on course to end Carly Rae Jepsen’s four-week stint at Number 1. However, the track, which was co-written by Tulisa’s ex-boyfriend and N-Dubz bandmate Fazer, wasn’t originally intended for her.
"It was one of those ones I heard in the studio, and I was like, 'I have to have this song’,” she revealed in an interview with BBC Radio 2. “It was meant for someone else, I'm not going to say who it was meant for, who they pictured it for, but I nicked it!”
"They didn't even get a chance to pitch it to the [other singer],” she added. “It wasn't even finished and I was like, 'I'm having that song, give it to me!’."
Carly Rae Jepsen has now slipped into second place, while former chart toppers Cover Drive look set to debut at Number 3 with their new track, Sparks. Fun and Janelle Monae’s We Are Young slips from Number 3 to Number 4, while Alex Clare’s Too Close climbs one place to Number 5 and completes this week’s Official Singles Chart Update Top 5.
New entries and high climbers
While Britain’s Got Talent may have beaten The Voice in last weekend’s television rating wars, the BBC’s new flagship music show looks set to knock Simon Cowell’s reality programme into second place on this week’s Official Singles Chart.
Beyonce’s Listen, which was covered by 9-year-old Malakai Paul on BGT onSaturday, is this week’s second highest re-entry, up a staggering 131 places to Number 36. However, James Vincent McMorrow’s Higher Love, which was performed by Tyler James on The Voice, climbs 133 places to Number 29 on today’s Official Singles Chart Update. If that wasn’t enough, Lana Del Rey’s Blue Jeans, which was performed by the US singer on The Voice on Sunday, is on course for its highest ever chart placing, climbing to Number 28.
Elsewhere, Sub Focus FT Alice Gold are new in at Number 18 with Out Of The Blue, Flux Pavilion’s Daydreamer looks set to debut at Number 30, and AVICII is set to score his third Top 40 hit with Silhouettes, which is on course for Number 34.
