Trainspotting voted best British film of the last 60 years

Trainspotting, the 1996 Danny Boyle film starring Ewan McGregor and based on the Irvine Welsh novel of the same name, has been voted the best British film of the last 60 years.

The poll, conducted by entertainment retailer HMV to coincide with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, took the lion’s share of the 24,000 votes cast, while 1975’s Monty Python And The Holy Grail was in second place. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part Two, which was the second biggest selling DVD and Blu-ray of 2011, is at Number 3, while another Monty Pyton film, 1979’s Monty Python’s Life Of Brian, is at Number 4. A Clockwork Orange, Stanley Kubrick’s 1971 adaptation of Anthony Burgess's controversial 1962 novel, completes the Top 5.
