Bastille’s Pompeii revealed as the UK’s most streamed song of all time, while Arctic Monkeys are the most streamed act.

The UK’s most-streamed songs and acts of all time have been announced today (Monday, June 23), as the Official Charts Company confirms that on-demand audio streams will be counted towards the Official Singles Chart for the first time from next month (July).

The data collected by the Official Charts Company reveals that Pompeii by Bastille is the most-streamed track of all time in the UK, racking up 26.6million streams over the past two years. It tops the all-time countdown ahead of Daft Punk’s Get Lucky (on 24.5m streams), with Passenger’s Let Her Go in third place with 21.7m streams generated in the UK to date.

“The fact Pompeii has had over 26 million streams is amazing," said Bastille frontman Dan Smith. “We’re really, really happy.

“When we made Pompeii we never even saw ourselves as a band that would be even remotely mainstream or anything like that. We thought, hopefully some people will like the song; maybe we’ll sell enough albums to be able to make a second album and not be jobless so soon after we quit our jobs in the first place.

“Everything that’s happened with Pompeii has completely blown our minds and the fact that we’re still doing this is as a job, the fact we get to travel round the world and go to different countries off the back of the album is insane and we just feel really lucky and glad that people stream too because streaming important.”

Official Charts Company chief executive Martin Talbot says: “It is a fantastic achievement for two British acts to claim the titles of most streamed song and most streamed act – so congratulations to Bastille and Arctic Monkeys respectively.

“Streaming (and the various streaming services in the UK) have truly come of age in the past 12 months, so we are extremely proud to reflect their users’ love of music in the Official Singles Chart – and also in our ongoing celebration of music popularity in the UK.”

The Official Charts Company’s data is the only aggregated snapshot of streaming in the UK, with streams counted from the beginning of 2012 up to the beginning of this month (June). The data is drawn from the on-demand audio streaming services who are starting to contribute to the chart next month, including Spotify, Deezer, Napster, O2 Tracks, Sony’s Music Unlimited, Xbox Music and rara, all members of the Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA), co-owners of the Official Charts Company along with record labels association the BPI.
