The best-selling album released by a female so far in 2017 is Vera Lynn's 100
While a new breed of pop starlets such as Camila Cabello, Dua Lipa, Zara Larsson and Anne-Marie are setting the charts alight, it is the oldest living recording artist in UK chart history that is making the headlines today.
At the incredible age of 100, Dame Vera Lynn is on course to have the best-selling female album released in 2017.
OfficialCharts.com today published the Top 40 biggest albums of 2017 so far, and when it comes to women who released records this year, it is the Forces' Sweetheart who has sold the most units, leaving the latest generation of talent in her tracks.
Released in March to celebrate Vera's 100th birthday, the compilation, titled 100, peaked at Number 3, making her the oldest living artist ever (and the first centenarian) to score a Top 10 album on the Official Albums Chart.

When physical and download sales are combined with streams, the album - which features collaborations with Aled Jones and Alexander Armstrong - is the 28th best seller of the year overall, and the highest selling from a female released in 2017.
Both Little Mix's Glory Days and Adele's 25 have both sold more this year, but were released in 2016 and 2015 respectively.
100 has coincidentally passed 100,000 sales in the UK so far this year, meaning it has secured BPI gold status. The next most successful LPs released in 2017 by women come from Zara Larsson, Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey and Imelda May.
With anticipated new albums still to come in Q4 from the likes of Taylor Swift, P!nk, Kelly Clarkson and Paloma Faith, it’s all to play for through to 2017’s final whistle.

Whats the matter with the females? Going backwards in the industry it seems! Took months for a female solo artist to top the singles chart and poor showing in the albums. Would expect Dua Lipa had a #1 and occupy the top end of albums with Ed Sheeran really. Seems females in the main being regulated to featured appearances on singles.
