The 1975 have unveiled their new single, a cover of Sade's classic By Your Side.

The band premiered their rendition of the song on Mistajam's BBC Radio 1 show last night (Feb 21), where it was unveiled as his 'Hottest Record In The World' that day.

The original was a Top 20 hit for British soul group Sade when it was released in November 2000. The 1975's version is being released in aid of War Child, a charity that supports, protects, educates and stands up for the rights of children in war.

"This song for me... if you listen to Kanye, if you listen to Bono... that song By Your Side has so much of that identity," frontman Matt Healy said. "When I was listening to it, I was listening to it with this real sense of modernity thinking wow, this is still really forward thinking.

"When we were going to go a gig for War Child... the idea of doing it for charity meant the sentiment of the song took on a whole different meaning, and it felt perfect. It's such a beautiful song."

Asked if the song will represent the sound of their next album, he revealed: "Sonically, yeah I'm sure it will do. I suppose with everything we do, it's always going to provoke what happens next.

"But honestly, there's so much [that's] going to happen next. you can take this as a barometer of what will happen next!"

The 1975 scored their second Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart last March with their second record (deep breath), I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It. Look at the band's complete chart history here
