Who’s heading to the Reading and Leeds festivals this weekend? Whether you’re en route with your tent and wellies, or are going to follow all the action on TV, here’s a little something from Official Charts HQ to get you in the mood, complete with Spotify and Deezer playlists...
With the 60th anniversary of the Official Singles Chart, 2012 is shaping up to be a real celebration of the hit single. OfficialCharts.com today reveals the Official Top 40 biggest selling hits of the bands and artists set to appear at this weekend’s Reading and Leeds festivals. This bank holiday weekend, an estimated 160,000 music fans will descend on Reading’s Richfield Avenue and Leeds’ Bramham Park for the annual event, which is set to feature over 170 bands, artists and DJs playing across six stages.
Florence And The Machine top the chart with You’ve Got The Love. The track, which originally peaked at Number 5 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart in 2009, climbed to Number 2 a year later thanks to a remix by East London grime star Dizzee Rascal. According to the Official Charts Company’s sales data, it has sold over 968,000 copies to date.
Leeds indie rockers Kaiser Chiefs, who are set to play a homecoming show tomorrow (Friday, August 24) are at Number 2 in the countdown with their 2007 Official Number 1 smash, Ruby. To date, it has sold over 461,000 copies in the UK.
Florence And The Machine are at Number 3 with 2010’s Dog Days Are Over (417,000 copies) - the second of their five tracks in the Top 40 - while London garage singer / songwriter Katy B is at Number 4 with 2010 signature tune, Katy On A Mission (372,300). Kasabian, who are set to headline Reading on Saturday and Leeds on Sunday, complete the Top 5 with their 2009 single, Fire (372,200).
Of the artists in the Top 40, Foo Fighters have the lion’s share of the tracks; their six singles – Best Of You (Number 11), The Pretender (12), All My Life (26) Times Like These (28), Everlong (29) and Learn To Fly (32) – have sold a combined total of 1.1 million copies in the UK. Florence And The Machine (2.2 million combined), Kaiser Chiefs (1.1 combined) and The Cure (898,000 combined) have five tracks each in the Top 40.
The combined sales total of the entire Reading And Leeds 2012 Official Top 40 is 9.1 million copies.
