She came in like a Wrecking Ball four years ago and now Miley Cyrus is taking us to Cali on her new track Malibu, her first official release in almost four years.

Miley's first proper single since October 2013 is out on May 11; a track described in the singer's new interview with Billboard as "a breezy love song - gimmick-free pop-rock unlike anything she has recorded before".

Miley said in the interview that she wrote Malibu while in the back of an Uber (as you do), and that the song is about putting power back into her relationship, with fiancé Liam Hemsworth.

Lyrics to Malibu include: "I never would’ve believed you if three years ago you told me I’d be here writing this song". Miley admits that her new music has a singer-songwriter feel, but is unlike Ed Sheeran or John Mayer's work, which she admits "I don’t listen to".

The Voice US coach wrote all lyrics and melodies to her new album, according the interview, while Oren Yoel - a co-writer on her Bangerz track Adore You - plays all the instruments on the currently untitled album.

Discussing what she wants to convey with the album, she said: "This record is a reflection of the fact that yes, I don’t give a f**k, but right now is not a time to not give a f**k about people. I’m giving the world a hug and saying, ‘Hey, look. We’re good - I love you.’ And I hope you can say you love me back.”

Malibu will be the first new single since Adore You, released in October 2013, taken from the her UK Number 1 album Bangerz. She also released another studio album Dead Petz, in 2015 which was released straight to Soundcloud for free. It has since debuted on streaming services this year.
