Justin Timberlake denies midweek leader Nicole Scherzinger a second UK Number 1 by claiming a third week on the Official Singles Chart with Mirrors.

Despite leading the pack midweek, as the final hooter sounds Nicole Scherzinger has been denied her second solo Number 1 by Justin Timberlake.

The former Pussycat Doll headed a tight race on Wednesday’s Official Chart Update with the new Will.I.Am-produced single Boomerangtaken from her forthcoming second solo album. However, as momentum slowed in the latter half of the week the track slipped to sixth place, with reigning chart topper Mirrors holding strong to cement a third consecutive week at Number 1 for Justin Timberlake.

As the UK clubbed together to ‘do something funny for money’ this week, One Direction’s Comic Relief single One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks) bounced four places north to Number 2. According to Official Charts Company sales records, the biggest selling Comic Relief single ever is still Tony Christie & Peter Kay’s Is This The Way To Amarillo, which stayed at Number 1 for a stonking seven weeks back in 2005, and has to date sold in excess of 1.24 million copes.

P!nk FT Fun. frontman Nate Ruess’s Just Give Me A Reason continues its ascent up the Official Singles Chart, hitting a new peak position of Number 3 this week in the track’s sixth week on chart. Bruno Mars When I Was Your Man is at Number 4, and the Top 5 is completed by London quartet Bastille with Pompeii (Number 5).
