Jason Derulo knocks Katy Perry off the top of the Official Singles Cha
Jason Derulo dethrones Katy Perry to score his third Official UK Number 1 single, and the fastest selling track of his career.
Jason Derulo will be celebrating tonight as his new single, Talk Dirty, takes pole position on this week’s Official Singles Chart.
The US singer has ended Katy Perry’s two-week run at Number 1 to score his third UK chart topper. With a sales tally of nearly 160,000 copies over the last seven days, Talk Dirty has become the fastest selling single of Jason’s career on these shores, and the fourth fastest selling single of 2013 over-all.
“Talk Dirty is Number 1? Heeeeeelll yeah!” Jason told OfficialCharts.com upon hearing the news. “My new album is not even out yet and already making history because of you! Thank you for your continued support, I'm gonna have to move to the UK in a minute!”
Talk Dirty, which also features rapper 2 Chainz, is the second single to be lifted from Jason’s third album, Tattoos, which is released in the UK tomorrow (Monday, September 23). The album’s lead track, The Other Side, was kept off Number 1 back in June by Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines. Today it climbs seven places to re-enter the Official Singles Chart Top 40 at Number 39.
Katy Perry’s Roar falls one place to Number 2, while Jessie J is new in at Number 3 with It’s My Party – the second single from her hotly anticipated second album, Alive (also out tomorrow). OneRepublic fall two places to Number 4 with Counting Stars, while Avicii takes up not one, but two places, in this week’s Top 10, as You Make Me enters new at Number 5, and former chart topper Wake Me Up holds strong at Number 6.
New Entries and High Climbers
Birdy, AKA Jasmine van den Bogaerde, debuts at Number 16 on this week’s Official Singles Chart with Wings. The single is taken from the 17-year-old singer / songwriter’s forthcoming second album, Fire Within.
Katy Perry scores a second Top 40 hit from her upcoming album, Prism, with Dark Horse. The track, which was released on Tuesday, debuts at Number 21 today. Linkin Park and Steve Aoki enter at 34 with A Light That Never Comes, while Scottish electro pop trio Chvrches score their highest charting single to date with The Mother We Share (38).
Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years soars 84 places to Number 11 after Nicholas McDonald performed it on last weekend’s X Factor, and The Wanted re-enter the Top 40 with We Own The Night, climbing 28 places to Number 23 today.
