Imagine Dragons claim first UK Number 1 album with Smoke + Mirrors

Smoke + Mirrors scores the US rock band a new Official Chart peak.

Imagine Dragons have seen off the competition to claim this week’s Official Albums Chart Number 1 with their second studio album Smoke + Mirrors. The LP surpasses 2013 debut Night Visions’ peak of Number 2.

Smoke + Mirrors, which was self-produced by Imagine Dragons alongside British hip-hop producer Alex Da Kid, features Top 40 single I Bet My Life.

Down one place to 2 today is Sam Smith’s debut In The Lonely Hour, followed by Ed Sheeran’s X (3) and Drake’s surprise new studio album If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late (4).

Legendary Scottish band Texas round out today’s Top 5 with Texas 25 (5). The album, which features re-recorded versions of eight of the band’s biggest hits as well as four brand new tracks, marks the group’s 10th UK Top 40. Click here to see Texas’ full Official Chart history.

New entries

There are eight further new entries in today’s Official Albums Chart Top 40.

British rockers Thunder score their highest charting album in 20 years with Wonder Days (9), while Break The Rules singer Charli XCX makes her chart debut with third studio album Sucker (15).

Ne-Yo lands a sixth Top 40 with Non-Fiction (16), as indie rock group Idlewild score a fifth with Everything Ever Written (20).

Pop/rock quartet Room 94 score a new Official Chart peak with their eponymous LP at 27, trailed by Steve Earle & The Dukes who rack up at second Top 40 with Terraplane (30).

Finally, trio Little Comets make their Top 40 debut with Hope Is Just a State Of Mind (31), as do French/Cuban sibling duo Ibeyi with their self-titled release (36).

There are three re-entries in this week’s chart. Led Zeppelin’s 1969 self-titled debut re-enters the Top 40 for its 51st week at 14 - click here to see the album’s full week-by-week chart run.

Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 Official Albums Chart Number 1 Rumours climbs 74 places to 38, followed by Status Quo’s Aquostic (Stripped Bare), Up 13 places to 39.
