A song released as a tribute to the Godfather of House Frankie Knuckles has landed straight in at Number 1 on the first ever Official Vinyl Singles Chart.

A new version of Frankie's Chicago house classic Baby Wants To Ride was released by Junior Boy’s Own labelmates Underworld and Heller & Farley to mark one year since the passing of the legendary DJ and record producer.

The news comes as OfficialCharts.com announces the launch of the UK’s first ever weekly Official Vinyl Charts. Read the full announcement here.

"We’re honoured to be Number 1 in the UK's first Official Vinyl Singles Chart,” Underworld’s Karl Hyde told Official Charts. “Vinyl has always been a hugely important part of what we do as Underworld.

“We started out selling 12"s of our records from the back of a car; it's still our format of choice when buying music and it’s fantastic that it's undergoing such a resurgence.

“This record came about purely as a tribute to the late, very great Frankie Knuckles and the chart recognition is a fitting tribute to his legacy. All proceeds go to the Frankie Knuckles Trust/Elton John AIDS Foundation. We’d like to humbly thank everyone who’s bought the record and helped raise money for such a worthy cause."

Following his tragic death last year, fans of Knuckles sent his classic track Your Love back into the Official Singles Chart at Number 29, marking his first UK Top 40 hit in almost 20 years. View his full Official Charts history here.

Elsewhere on the UK’s first Official Vinyl Singles Chart, Aphex Twin’s Marchromt30a is at 2, Swim Deep’s To My Brother lands at Number 3, and Lulu’s classic Shout enters at 5.

Over on the first Official Vinyl Albums Chart, US punk rockers All Time Low enter at Number 1 with Future Hearts. The band’s sixth studio album also tops this week’s Official Albums Chart.

“What I love about vinyl is that it makes a real event out of music,” singer Alex Gaskarth told Official Charts.

“The world is in music overload at the moment, so it’s great to see more people honing in on certain artists by buying a vinyl and showing loyalty to their favourites. It makes the whole experience of listening to an album special.”

Meanwhile, grunge band Drenge are new at 2 with their second album Undertow, Bristol band Turbowolf debut at 4 with Two Hands, and The Prodigy complete the Top 5 with The Day Is My Enemy.

"First ever vinyl singles chart"? Didn't we have those from 1952 right through to 1980 when "C30 C60 C90 Go" became the first chart single that wasn't on vinyl?
