Emeli Sande announces details of comeback single Hurts: "It's a real explosion"

She's kept us waiting for a long time, but Emeli Sandé has finally announced details of her brand new single, called Hurts.

The singer-songwriter will release the lead single from her highly anticiapted second album on September 16.

“I wanted to release ‘Hurts' first because it felt like everything I’d avoided saying for so long,” Sandé said. "It’s a real explosion. It’s everything I wish I’d said years and years ago. I didn’t want to hold anything back anymore."

Last month Emeli posted a teaser clip of a track called Intermission from her new album, which is expected to be released this year. The record follows her 2012 debut Our Version Of Events, which went on to become the biggest selling album of that year - and the second biggest of 2013. 

"I’m proud of my first album and thankful for the experiences it gave me," she explained, "but I’m so much happier with my new album and with where I am in life.

"In retrospect, I was like a pressure cooker waiting to pop off. I had to stop and really look at myself and realise who I was. That’s been the biggest lesson for me, learning to feel comfortable in who I am and what I represent and what I stand for."
