Carly Rae Jepsen continues her reign at the top of the Official Singles Chart for a third week with Call Me Maybe.
The former Canadian Idol contestant has fought off tough competition from Brit newcomer Conor Maynard to retain her title. Carly, who was in the UK earlier this week to promote the track, stopped by BBC Radio 1 on Wednesday (April 18) to chat to Official Chart host Reggie Yates and collect her Official Singles Chart Number 1 Award. The award is a new initiative by the Official Charts Company as part of the celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of the Official Singles Chart, and is presented in conjunction with Radio 1 to recognise every new Number 1 single.
“This is the best day of my life,” smiled Carly. “It truly is. Every day feels like the best day of my life; I keep on waking up and it just gets better, so thank you so much.”

New entries and high climbers
This week’s Official Singles Chart highest new entry comes courtesy of Conor Maynard. The 19 year old from Brighton, who topped MTV’s Brand New For 2012 poll earlier this year, goes straight in at Number 2 with his debut single Can’t Say No.
“When I first wrote it, it was more of a tongue in cheek kinda thing, it wasn’t really meant to be taken too seriously,” Conor told www.officialcharts.com. “It’s about meeting girls in the street, and they just want me! Which wasn’t the case, ha! But then again, it could have been a bit of premonition, ‘cause of how things have changed now. I HAVE been chased!”
You can watch the full video interview with Conor below.
John Legend’s Ordinary People is this week’s highest climber. The track, which was performed on hit reality TV show The Voice last weekend by contestant Jaz Ellington is up from Number 27 to Number 4 – it’s highest ever chart position.
Atlanta rapper B.o.B., who has enjoyed Number 1s with Paramore’s Hayley Williams (Airplanes) in 2010 and Jessie J (Price Tag) in 2011, is new in at Number 7 this week with his latest single, So Good. His label mate Marina Diamandis, AKA Marina And The Diamonds, is a few places behind at Number 11 with Primadonna, her fifth Official Singles Chart Top 40 hit.
San Francisco rockers Train, who have debuted at Number 10 on the Official Albums Chart with their latest release, California 37, debut at Number 14 on the Official Singles Chart with new track Drive By, while mega selling US metallers Linkin Park complete this week’s Official Singles Chart new entries with Burn it Down in at Number 27.
